Text Messages on Blaze or Ionic

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I'm considering purchasing either a Fitbit Blaze or Ionic (probably the Ionic) paired with a Samsung S8 and want to get a definitive on standard text messages (not any other messaging app).

I want to turn off the content notification on the phone so that on the lock screen it just shows 'Sender Name' and that a message has been received, however on my Fitbit I want to be able to read the full text of the message - is this possible?

You should still be able to the text. Note however, the S8 is not yet listed as a compatible device on Fitbit. It may work as it has for others. Still others have had some issues, notifications being one of them.

@SunsetRunner I think you mean not comparable with the Blaze (and Surge). It works perfectly for the Ionic - all notifications are available on mine.

No, I meant is is still not a supported device. It doesn't matter which tracker you are referring to. You can check to see if a phone is supported here. As I said, some users don't have any problems. My LG  G6 works fine and it too is not supported yet.

@SunsetRunner I don't have an S8 to test, however my understanding (a year ago) is that Android will only forward the content of a text message if a preview of the text is on lock screen. However Samsung tweaks things, and I'm not current on the Android Notification Center support for Bluetooth devices.

The original poster wants to disable previewing the text content on lock screen, and only see it on the Ionic.

Thanks all for the comments so far and yes exactly that, no notifications on the phone but the ability to read message text on the watch.

I’ve checked the compatibility and the S8 looks fine so I’m happy with that.

The reason I’m asking for a definitive is because some people are saying that it will only show whats displayed on the lock screen and others say it will display the full message regardless

Thanks

@bbarrera

A year ago there was no Samsung Galaxy S8. And, I have zero notifications on my lock screen, and I still get full notifications from texts on my Ionic.

I'm primarily using iOS/OSX. A year ago I looked into Android Notification Center, was not referring specifically to the S8. Samsung modifies stock Android, so even if I knew something about Nexus and Notification Centers that doesn't mean it is accurate for the Samsung S8 (or other Samsung mobiles).
