Tracking an activity with phone and Ionic GPS

So I did a run last Sunday and tracked it through the Fitbit app on my phone (ionic on wrist still). I did 5k which showed on the map after. Today I tracked the run through my watch instead (had already spent ages squeezing ridiculous size iphone in Nike back pocket 🤦‍:female_sign: Couldn’t get it back out to start through the app) and I did the same route but had to run soooo much further to reach 5k. What is up with that 🤷‍:female_sign: Which one is right to trust??? And why are they so different???

@Sameady15 A warm welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for getting in touch about this .

I appreciate the detailed information shared. Your Fitbit app will track the activity using the sensors in your phone and the Fitbit Ionic will track it using the built-in GPS.

I would like you to follow these tips to use GPS on your Fitbit Ionic:

  • Charge your device to at least 80%, as built-in GPS can cause the battery to drain more quickly.
  • Start your exercise and connect to GPS in an area where you have a clear view of the sky.
  • Sync your device with the Fitbit app. The more you sync your device, the faster your device can connect to GPS.
  • If you are using GPS for the first time in an area, connecting may take longer than usual.

Note that your watch uses your step count to calculate distance until GPS is connected.

I'll be around if you have any additional questions.
