Just got my ionic last week. Most of my music is from itunes and Spotify. Could not transfer to myIonic. Not sure if this is a compatibility issue or my lack of techie knowledge!

It's not you..  it's fitbit forgetting what century it was when releasing the watch to the masses...   Fitbit doesn't offer the standard and more popular ways to download offline music much to the dismay of many.   You could always use Pandora and let it put stuff you don't want to listen to into the memory of your ionic.   😉

Thanks for the info, but I do not think that Pandora works in Canada. Of note, it will not pair to my BlackBerry Priv even though the latter is an Android phone. Thinking of returning it!

What "standard and more popular ways to download music" are you referring to?  If you have the songs as mp3 files on a PC, you can download them to the Ionic.  I do wish you could download mp3 files directly from your phone to the Ionic, too.

I'm not aware of any other legal way to put music on a device.  All the streaming services control how their music is streamed, to profit from it after paying the artists or those that hold the rights to the music.  Pandora and Fitbit worked out a deal that may be profitable to both.  Maybe others will, too, eventually..

If anyone has to tell you dermbrian,  than you're obviously way behind the times..  I'm not trying to be mean,  I'm just stating the facts.   Most people this day in age pay for streaming services so they don't have to house mp3's that take up space..    The fact of the matter is,   companies like Spotify,  offer a way to stream their catalogs to your PC and phone,  and watches with ease.  You can put together a playlist of your favorite songs in a matter of 5 minutes simply by searching for the song with a few clicks and adding to your custom playlist..  Spotify also gives you the option to download the exact playlist to your device quickly and easily for offline listening.      Most people don't even own a PC anymore,  although I own many,  but streaming service is what most people are either using or moving to..     The way spotify makes the downloading playlist work, is that you can't take that playlist off your phone and share with others..  It's not in Mp3 format like traditional music files..       Trust me bro,   this is the way to go if you like to listen to music and workout but don't want to take too much time and work into getting it to work..

Let me give you an example-   I use my phone to play music to my bluetooth headset when I work out.  To put a playlist together on my phone with spotify I sit down at my PC and design a playlist that I feel like listening to that day,  it typically takes me about 10 mintues..   I then log on to the spotify app with my phone and simply choose the playlist and download for offline listening..  This way I can listen to that playlist without internet or any trouble...     What most of us are screaming for is for fitbit to get a deal working with spotify so we can do this with our watches instead of our phones..    Right now they got pandora but for true music overs whom have picky taste it's a horrible option because pandora only gives us stations to download into our watches..  So you might end up getting a bunch of stuff you hate downloaded to your watch...  I was spinning yesterday and guns and roses came on through my ionic,  I about puked..

I have Spotify on my tablet on phone. Do I need to add it to my PC to connect to my ionic?

Unfortunately spotify doesn't work in any capacity as far as streaming or downloads with the IONIC.  This is what everyone is screaming about though...  I think the majority of us want spotify to be able to download our custom playlist for offline listening with our ionics,   but as of right now spotify is not supported in this capacity..

However,  pandora is an app that is supported and is an option if you subscribe to pandora premium.  The big caveat is,  and it's a big one,  is that with pandora you can't download the music you really want to hear into your ionic because pandora decides what to store in your Ionic based on you taste.

Right now,   I'm going to just use my phone and forget using the Ionic how I thought I was going to be able to use it.   I actually bought the ionic thinking that pandora would give me freedom to download offline custom playlist but this just isn't the case...  Personally I feel mislead by fitbit in this regard because of their vaguness on the issue..  I think most of us thought that we could download custom playlist using the pandora App and I know a ton of us are upset..  I can't even imagine what our friends in the UK are going through,  they only have the archaic option of mp3's from computer method.. LOL

So are you aware of any current watches that play, or even stream with LTE, your Spotify playlists with ease (without a cell phone nearby)?

I'm hardly behind the times.  I got a TomTom Spark when it came out supporting onboard music.  I'm a day 1 Fitbit Ionic owner and helped my wife set up her Apple Watch Series 3 the same day I set up my Ionic.  My only streaming music I use is Amazon Prime music through my Amazon Echo's and TuneIn and IHeartRadio on my phone.  Most of my listening is of my own mp3's.  The subscription streaming services are the ones controlling their music distribution, not the wearable manufacturers.
