I picked up an Ionic yesterday after using Garmin for a few years. So far I am not sure the move was wise:
According to some research there are issues with battery life and 'all day sync'. I never had any phone/device battery issues with Garmin. If all day sync kills battery then the suggestion is that I switch it off. However, I don't want to have to switch off features of my ionic just to so it will work with my phone.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Hello,
To my understanding, not a watch but syncing with Fitbit servers drains the battery.
It is not Fitbit specific, many apps, incl. MS Outlook for Android also do this.
In my case, it stopped after some days. My phone syncs through WiFi every night, I don't know how much time will it take through cellular connection.
I also cleared phone apps cache regularly.
IMO, Fitbit strongly depends on bandwidth. In some cases loosing good connection caused Fitbit Coach to loose Premium subscription. Restart with a good WiFi solved the issue.
What is good for Ionic, is that it is entertaining device - there's a lot of challenges to deal with: community, support etc. As an IT person, I like this. Without Ionic I'll never learn about apps cache cleaning in Android. Samsung Galaxy Watch, for example, is quite boring: it just works...

Hello @RFT72, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. It's nice to see you too @MikeGn, I hope you're doing well.
@RFT72, I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. Please note that if your Ionic needs a firmware update, you will be able to see a pink banner or a pink arrow next to your Ionic when you tap on Account.
Now, before you begin the firmware update, make sure your watch is plugged into the charger and in range of your Wi-Fi network during the update. For best results, use your home or work Wi-Fi network. If you've never connected your watch to WiFi, see How do I connect my Fitbit watch to Wi-Fi?. If your Versa is having trouble updating with WiFi, please try the following:
If the update fails, restart your mobile device and try to update again. If your Versa can't update over WiFi follow the on-screen instructions in the Fitbit app to update your watch over Bluetooth instead. Note that firmware updates over Bluetooth may take significantly longer to complete. If the Versa is having trouble updating through Bluetooth try the following:
Finally, when it comes to the battery on your phone, please try what @MikeGn suggested an clean the cache of the Fitbit app. Note that it has been tested that All-day Sync will not drain the battery on your phone or device faster than usual, so you can keep it enabled.
I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.
