Using Two Ionics on One Account

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have been using the Ionic since it came out (first week in October 2017). I currently own the bronze and blue band version. I love it. My daughters got me the dark Ionic for Christmas. I used to have both the Surge and Blaze on my account (I used them both all the time). However, I cannot use two ionics on my account. I would like to suggest that a way be developed to enable this, allowing one to name the first “Ionic 1” and the second one “Ionic 2”.

@R.lockhart, create a 2nd Fitbit account, and add your 2nd Ionic to that account - you can just create another gmail account if you don't already have another email address to use.  You can have multiple Fitbit devices on the same account, but you cannot have 2 of the same kind, i.e., you can have a Blaze, a Surge, and an Ionic on one account, but you cannot have a Blaze and 2 Ionics.

I understand that I cannot currently have two of the same devices. I suppose I don’t understand why this is necessarily so. I don’t understand why one cannot simply name one of them, e.g., “Ionic 1” or “Bronze”, and the other, e.g., “Ionic 2” or “Black.”  I understand that this cannot currently be done; I am simply suggesting that the software developers consider building this option in as a feature. The two account option really creats two separate profiles rather than one wholistic profile. It certainly provides a short-term solution for me rather than returning the gift in exchange for a Blaze or Surge, by I would ultimately like to use both for one overall profile.

I asked this same question when I bought the Blaze. I ended up with 2 and wanted to be using one for work and one for home. It just doesn't allow it. I asked Fitbit about it and all they would say is that it's not allowed. I want this to be allowed. I don't know why it's not allowed. I not have a Blaze for work and the Ionic for everything else.

I have a Surge on its last legs added as a 2nd Fitbit with an Ionic in same acct. I switch when I charge the ionic, since a button doesn’t work on the Surge, I don’t use it for long but they sync up and my data stays intact for .  I want to replace my Surge with another ionic but Fitbit doesn’t allow 2 of the same model on same acct. Fitbit should really consider allowing this, it’ll help with sales, I like the Ionic and want 2 of these on one account. If it’s not allowed, why buy it

Hello @goldglenn1 and a warm welcome.  Even though my Versa 2 is as water resistant as your Ionic, I take mine off and charge it while I am in the shower.  It is charged by the time I am dressed.  Yes, I might lose 100 or so steps, but I accept that.  Fitbit recommends against continuous wear -- your skin need a break every now and then.

Even if I could have two smartwatches on my account, I wouldn't invest in two of the most expensive Fitbits.  Not for a two hour charge time from a near dead battery.

How do you set up a second account on the same cell phone?  Changing e-mail etc. does not work.

@MikeR417   I personally haven't done this, but I think it will work.  Log out of your Fitbit app (don't cancel your account), then set up a new account with the alternate e-mail.  Then you can set up your other Fitbit on the second account.  When you try this, make sure your first Fitbit is far enough away that you don't get Bluetooth interference from the two Fitbits.  Switching between the two accounts should just take logging out of one account and logging in with the other.

I really wish that Fitbit could solve this problem.

Considering that this is a real issue as I also have the same one and it seems to be a minor tweak! Is someone @Fitbit awake?

Hello LZeeW,

thanks for responding, I don’t do continuous wear with the 2 Fitbit’s, I do remove it to let my wrist breathe when showering or sitting idle.  What I find more often than not is my preferred ionic is still charging when I leave the house so I end up using the old Fitbit that has functions that.don't work. I can’t use the exercise, timer, stopclock and setup functions. It’s strictly a step, mile and calorie counter so I’m limited. The ionic is perfect for my use, I don’t need the Features of an Apple Watch and I would be willing to purchase a 2nd ionic due to its independent gps capability but if I can’t use it; why purchase another one. Fitbit would easily benefit in sales and customer satisfaction if Fitbit allowed use of the same model on one account.
