Fitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.
The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.
This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.
If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

It’s on the Fitbit page about the recall, we’re getting (if in the USA) 299 dollars refunded (or £223 in the U.K.)

I have been trying to register for a refund for my ionic. I have been unable to complete the process but I keep getting a message that my email does not match with the email registered with my Fitbit account. It does! Could someone please help me with what I should do next? Thank you 🙏

New challenge when trying to follow the safety recall instructions & reconnect my old Ionic to verify & disable it. I've powered it up for the first time in months, but the screen is all grainy & I can't read the 4 digit pairing code to link pair it back to my phone. Any suggestions on how to proceed from here? I still have the original box, with the barcode & serial number if that's any help?

Same issue here. I received the safety recall notice, charged up my old Fitbit & went to reconnect to the app as instructed. My phone finds the Ionic, it tells me to enter the 4 digit code, but the screen is just black & no buttons change anything. I've hard restarted 5 times but nothing is changing. Any suggestions on how to sort this issue?

Where does it actually say that though? Just read back through the main page on case it had been updated but it only ever refers to $299.... There is no mention at all of any other currency?

When do we receive the special discount code? I have filled out the Account Verification and Disabled Synching and have received no emails about the discount. Do we receive it along with the refund?

@RedDeviluk It doesn't mention it. The $299 price was the launch price in the US. If the rest of the world are getting a fair deal, we should also be getting the launch price (in our territory). The launch price in the UK was £299, so it could be claimed we actually overpaid for it in the first place.

I totally agree, I was responding to @SunsetRunner comments earlier that it states in the UK were only getting £223. He said it was stated on the main page.

There is no other option for a refund except PayPal which I don't have so I got stuck there to proceed with registration.

Did the whole process 2 days ago for me & my wife's Ionic's. Mine went through in less than 30mins (Ionic syncing deactivated + vérification of account & refund confirmed via mail) while my wife's didn't yet even though we did it at the same time and here Ionic syncing has also been deactivated remotely by Fitbit (with here & my account).
Also the store link that I received by mail for the discount is totally useless as it reaches a blank page on the Fitbit help website!

It finally worked this morning and I could register also for the discount out of Germany.
I guess fitbit's webpage was simply ran over and plugged... https://qa-fitbithelp.cs214.force.com/fitbitmyhelp/s/DeviceDiscount?language=en_US
I ordered a new fitbit sense incl wristbands and got the discount etc. Hope it arrives soon!

Hi,
I am using my fitbit Ionic since 2018, purchased in US when I visited. Recently I purchased Ionic for my wife also. Today I got a email about the recall of Ionic, felt very bad about it.
Now my question is, when I click to register my watch, I am not able to do so. I can see my country India in the drop down menu, but "Register" button is disabled. How can I proceed? Can someone help?

I am going through the fitbit ionic refund process as i got an email saying to go through this as there is a burning issue with the battery. My fitbit battery is dead so i am unable to connect it to sync it
i can verify it with the order number and date when purchased as well as countless emails to support about battery issues in the past
I have had nothing but battery issues with it. Constantly overheating and the battery dying. Had the device replaced on multiple occasions years ago due to the battery burning out but was told i was using it incorrectly and my warranty expired so they left me with nothing, only to find out now there has been a fault with the ionic devices

I see below that people are getting 40% off vouchers but in the first email I had it says. "We’re offering a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers." I dont want another Fitbit watch as the battery issues concerns me and the new range of watches look like child's watch or toys. So is there an option to have a full refund (c.a. £300) instead of the pointless 40% off voucher?

You will get a 40% discount in addition to a full refund of your Ionic device.
