Fitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.
The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.
This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.
If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

Just found that the Apps and Clock Faces buttons are both missing from the Ionic settings on the Fitbit app on my phone. So that means I can't install any new apps or clock faces to my watch. Is this a bug, or has it been removed deliberately by Fitbit? When will it get fixed, or what do I have to do to fix it from my end?

If it's a card they don't need your bank details. You provided your address so it will be posted. At least you got that far? Still won't recognise my ref number!

I'm probably going to retrofit a different watch into the Ionic case. I only brought the Ionic because I liked they way it looked, I'm not bothered about any of the other gimmicky bits.
If I delve into smart-watchery again I'll probably slap myself and just buy a half decent dumb watch that won't 'require' updates, charging or any ropey af customer service click and paste responses.

@YojanaFitbit There is no status for my refund there, after completing recall procedure, all i got is a blocked Ionic, no mail no nothing. What should i do? There are a lot of people like i am who didn't get any notification after their Ionic got disabled. You guys at Fitbit should do something about it fast, because blocking users 300 USD watches and then going quite is not going to be very healthy for your image.

So my refund has been processed and it states Mastercard/debit or PayPal so I selected Mastercard and then continued but it didn’t ask for my bank details? After I clicked continue it said thanks you will receive your refund in 3-6 weeks?
any one have any idea how I can log my bank details?

You could do with reading the very top post in this group.
I very much doubt that fitbit are going to bother with clock faces, etc for a device that's being recalled for safety issues.

I guess everyone is trying to do the same thing at the same time! Might try again in a couple of days

Yes, I'm aware of the voluntary recall. But what I want to know is is this a temporary glitch, or permanent and intentional thing? Has it happened to other models too, or just Ionic? Have fitbit deliberately crippled Ionic?

Obviously if they are recalling and refunding, that is the end of the ionic permanently. There will be no support. Get your money back and get a new model with a 40% discount. Or use it with no connectivity until it burns up on your wrist 😁

I am in Vancouver Canada and was wondering how you get the refund. Is it a cheque they send, do we return to a fitbit retailer and they give you a credit?

After receiving an e-mail with reference code and link to Account verification, it does not let me go further. If I input the reference code included in the e-mail, it says that "Reference code not found" (5h later it still does not work although the system suggests to wait for 30 minutes) and suggest me to contact customer support. Anyone experiences the same problem?

I received confirmation of my refund in 3-6 weeks, but haven't received any discount code in a few days. Is this normal?

It's one thing to withdraw support, it's another to cripple a load of functionality. I don't want any of the new models, they all look rubbish. That's not to say I'll keep wearing the Ionic though either. But I also don't particularly want to switch brands because I like to do the fitbit challenges with my friends and I've also got the aria scales. I've bought into Fitbit's ecosystem and now I'm stuck without a decent device.

Thanks very much, I've started the recall process but not received my discount code yet. When are the codes due to be distributed?
