Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

I want to update everyone my new discounted Fitbit just came in the mail today and next week I will be getting the return kit and be able send the ionic back to for the refund. The process was smooth sailing for me.  I am truly sorry for everyone who is having trouble. So know that this process does work. Please be patient. @SunsetRunner Thanks so much for your response. It's really nice of you to take the time to send this.

However, do you work for Fitbit? Is this a 100% guarantee that I will be receiving £230 Because if not, you are not helping at all? May I draw your attention that anyone can make an assumption? Even better, they may even take the 299 USD referenced on the help page and put that into a currency change.  I'd guess that is what you were referencing, by saying around £230. But, today's exchange rate would come out at £279.

It's fair to say, that my comment is and was based on the fact that I do not have any fixed number provided to me. Plus, as I have already said - It is dangerous to make ASSUMPTIONS. Basically, I am now left with a device that I can not use and have not been told how much I will get in writing so that I could go and spend that amount replacing my now-defunct device.

Taking that into account, I still say thank you - OK

Oh wow - thanks so much for that! Are you presenting this message as an official representative of Fitbit?

I have to say that if that is so. Your response is terribly shabby.

I can’t sync my ionic for registering for the refund. The screen is blank. I’ve done a full reset with difficulty but can’t see the code on the watch to resync. Is there a standard code or does it change. It’s to a iPhone 6plus. Cheers

I've not received my discount code yet either. Sorted the refund part and Ionic now disabled

Just posting this incase it helps for anyone else as I had exactly the same aggravation. So registered last night and got through step 1, however step 2 wasn't working for me and gave up. After reading on here this morning I tried re-registering (step 1) again which was successful and got another emailed link, waited the 30 mins still didn't work. Someone on here posted the discount page link which seems to take you to the same reference number input - the new code didn't work, I thought I'd try my original number and this did work! I now have the email with the discount code & link however I haven't received anything about the refund which looking on here can take up to 6 weeks. I won't be purchasing anything from fitbit until I'm refunded in full and to be honest this whole process has really turned me off fitbit, which is a shame because I really loved the ionic. Absolutely shambolic customer service from fitbit.

Sign up for one using the email address you advised to fitbit that your PayPal is linked to. They will try to refund to that email address when they finally get around to issuing refunds.

No, I am not a representative of Fitbit and my comments were just an accurate representation of my experience with this recall. I am a 75 yo mountain hiker and power walker who is devoted to fitness and find Fitbit helps. BTW…..your insult was more a reflection on you…..not me.
