Fitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.
The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.
This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.
If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

…seriously this is turning into a massive fraud ..I registered twice but the ridiculous number that I was sent doesn’t work …did the online chat thing and all I kept on getting was try again in another hr ….the person would not confirm if the system was done or not …seriously Fitbit stop **** around and own up and standby replacing this product. You should know that the registration was completed on the basis of getting a refund, without a refund the registrations are void. Sort the problem out and stop hiding behind closed doors blaming system issues.

Have you found out how much the refund will be in th UK. I did try the live chat but there was no response. I couldn’t see anything on the refund pages.
-------------
I’m the same as you I bought it when it launched. Hopefully they’ll pay the RRP from when you bought it not the run out discounted price when they were clearing old stock. Seems strange they haven’t said how much and that it could take 6 weeks to process the refund.

@SunsetRunner @I just got it sorted after nearly a whole day. I know how infuriating it is..trust me..but it does wirk and it will eventually. Says 3-6 weeks for the refund but its been that shambolic that i look forward to getting the refund and never getting another fitbit item again after the way this circus has gone on. Im in ireland at i woke up before my alarm went off at 6am and tried it and it worked. I wont tell you to he patient because i know how ridiculous and annoying that is as im sure it all uv been told but just know that it will work eventually because i was the exact same as urself. They are a sham of a company, at least the customer service is

Fitbit has bungled this recall terribly. The whole process wasn't very well thought out. It's also obvious that the plan is not working, so why not simplify it? Ionic users should just have to provide proof of purchase and then get instructions on how to get the refund. I bought one of the first Ionics back in 2017, but it died 18 months later. Fitbit refused to fix or replace it since it was "out of warranty," so I put it in my closet, deleted my account, and went with another vendor. A few days ago, I was notified by Amazon that the Ionic that I purchased was under recall and that I was entitled to a refund, but after jumping through all of the hoops, I still cannot get any refund code and cannot get any answers from Support (even though I was told by the chat representative that my case would be "elevated" and that I would hear back from them "within a few hours." ) Well, it's been a few days, and now I cannot even get a support rep on the phone or chat. Fitbit needs to step it up and fix this process ASAP!

Thanks for putting this together, Pizzacheeks. I'm UK, I've registered, then verified, where it said refund could take up to 6 weeks. Burgeoning get about discount codes - do you know if that's the same time as the refund?

Same thing.
That the murphy law, I will get a refund so I need to pass every single problem that others do not have. Such as bug in every single step of the process…

I have an ionic. It does have another issue as well as the recall one. I have registered it for refund but the reference code doesn’t work for me to complete the process. Can anyone tell me how to finish it?

I’m also very sad about the loss of my Ionic, it’s been the most reliable and accurate watch of all the fitbits I’ve got, I have a small family of them! 🙂
I’m tempted to keep my running….. do we know if they will disable sync globally, regardless of registering it as a working item?

I’ve never found the charge watches to be accurate. I bought a charge 4 last year as a more discrete option to wear through the day, so I could also wear a normal watch.
When compared to the Ionic in terms of step count, it was adding them on for fun! I stopped wearing it and sold it before Christmas.
I’m not even sure now if I’ll stick with Fitbit, as I want something reliable and accurate; it’s sad really as been a customer since the very very early days.
