Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Answers to common questions
  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

I was given the 2 options, when I selected Mastercard debit it doesnt ask you to enter the card details to send the refund. Annoying! I also didnt recieve anything to obtain items at the discounted amount. I was told to try a different browser......same outcome!

I tried several times to purchase the free annual membership, but always got error messages I couldn't solve. Who hides the free membership behind a payment?! It worked with the free wristbands too.

The Mastercard refund option is a pre-paid card which has the refund amount loaded on to it. So, you get a 16-digit number, expiry date, etc, that you can use for purchases. It may be a virtual card, rather than a physical card.

Try using this link and logging in to your account to see if you can initiate the discount details to be sent to you automatically via email:

Yes, it's all very vague, and so unclear....once I saw that my Ionic was to be recalled I went ahead and purchased a 'Sense' from Amazon UK, but now I'm being offered a discount on a replacement Fitbit....will it definitely be 40%, do I set up the return of my Amazon purchase.....it's been on my wrist a few days ? What a mess.....😕

I’m considering a “sense” but won’t buy until the refund is in the bank!
What is your opinion of the sense?

Smart move.

Yes, my Ionic "seems" fully funcsional., but surely no syncing, with internet and or bluetooth. So I can at this stage only assume that an email in regarts to refund in my pocket may be forthcoming.

Cheers

I’m considering a Sense, when the refund is safely in the bank.

what is your opinion of the Sense?

3 to 6 weeks for the money , and who knows what the refund will be..... ?

The Sense is superb, really pleased with it....so far 🤔

Do Fitbit disable your Ionic as soon as you sign up for refund. This means you could have weeks to wait for refund with a watch or tracker?

Best Answer

it is not possible for me to give this information

Best Answer

Oh NO, that's not good.....all we want is some clarity from Fitbit, they're certainly not making it an easy transition from the Ionic 🙄

Had problem with the reference code not found,  but after the 3rd registration the code was accepted.
and 15min after i agreed to unsync the ionic from my account it disapeared.. this was almost 2 days ago, still havent got the mail with discount code and details about my refund..
I am aware that fitbit got there hands full with this recall, but some info on how long we should wait for or emails before starting to try to get in contact with the support would be nice..

I placed my Ionic discount order on 4th March and received it today. I'm In Scotland and it shipped from Netherlands, there was no extra duty to pay.

I'm waiting for now, I contacted via Instagram, they told me to wait, my transaction started on Saturday night, I think they will be refunded because they can't give a discount code
