Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

OK, here you go folks the moment you've all been waiting for.  I just a few minutes again received an email from PayPal telling me they have received my refund and now I have a balance of 299.  So know you will get it just be patient.

Thanks for letting us know.

Do you know what date you submitted your refund request?

@ShaunOR  I'm in the UK and I've just got my refund into my PayPal account.  After converting to pounds it works out as £227.79.

Not too shabby for a watch that only cost £114.00 new from Amazon a year ago!

Nice one! That's a pretty good deal then.

That’s brilliant wish I’d opted for PayPal rather than loaded Mastercard

I Just received 309$ to my PayPal. I did the prosess on 6.march.

I live in Norway, in the mail it says 299, and extra in case of fees, so 309, and converted it was a little over 2578 nok.

I ordered a charge 5, and I am very pleased about it. I like that it is smaller ad lighter than the ionic. All in all happy. And the prosess was very straight forward for me, with no problema or delays.

@pizzacheeks - Thanks for letting the community know.  Since I started my return process the same as you did and I know my Ionics were delivered to Sedgwick the 14th & 15th of March then I expect my refunds anytime now.  The earliest I would have expected anything would have been 4 April as that would mark 3 weeks from the time the first Ionic was delivered for processing, so possibly they are ahead of schedule a bit?  There's hope for everyone.

Canada - I got the e-mail and payment is in my Paypal 4-weeks exactly 🙂 They actually gave me a bit more to help cover transaction fees

Well done fitbit 🙂

It seems chaotic. I got an email offering £70 off a Sense. I rang fitbit and they said l could buy it and then cancel the Ionic and l'd get a refund. I cancelled the ionic but never git any message about how l wanted to receive the refund.

Funnily enough 5 minutes after asking the question- PayPal received £227.55 as my refund. Thankyou fitbit! Just ordered replacement for my ionic and a new versa for the wife as hers isn't working now! Cost to me - £20 well happy with that.

I received my refund this evening.

I am just wondering though.... I paid £279 for it but received $309 which is around about £227.

I do appreciate there is discount on  replacement fitbit devices also, but shouldn't I receive a refund covering all of my purchase price? After all I am now left with a not fully functioning watch/tracker.

The refunds seem to have just started filtering through. My Daugher-in-law 'phoned a minute ago to say she has just received her refund.

I should be getting mine shortly too - hopefully

Prior to the recall, I assume that you had full use of the Fitbit Ionic for so many months/years with a full warranty. Given that the closest replacement to the Ionic is the Fitbit Sense and it's available at £168 with the discount, that's less than the £227 you've been refunded, plus you get a new watch/tracker with a full warranty, a new strap and a full year of premium free. I think that's more than fair really.

Hi,

I started my return on 4th March and just received $309 into my PayPal account, this converts to £227.79. So total wait was 26 days.

UPS lost my return and won't initiate an investigation for me. Fitbit has to do it.

The Fitbit support on Twitter and the customer support number has been unhelpful.

I have to say I don't agree. As it stands the sense is not appealing to me. Nor is any of the current line up.

I would still be using the Ionic if there had not been a recall.
