Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

  • Information on how to receive a refund
  • Access to a special discount on select Fitbit devices, bands, and services, if available in your region, for a limited time.

Same thing for me, I don't think anyone will be getting refunds or allowed to recall multiple devices if they have them

Honestly, I had 2 ionics (one purchased and one gifted) and did get a refund for both of them, but it was really early in the process when they first started to recall them.  Then I pruchased a sense 1 after just a year has gone into a reboot loop and won't restart.  Ironically, my Blaze and even my Surge are still trucking along and work great.  Something to be said for the new versus the old programming.

I am also distressed. Since May last year, Fitbit has still been reviewing, and I am not sure what refund eligibility Fitbit is reviewing? I have provided the receipt and other materials, but it took me 18 months to complete the review. Does Fitbit not have the money to make the refund? Or does Fitbit only offer refunds to a few people to reduce losses? Isn't our health the biggest capital of Fitbit?

Fitbit requested me to provide a receipt or proof of purchase materials, but I provided them truthfully. However, Fitbit still stated that it was unable to verify the refund eligibility. Isn't my purchase voucher the most objective and effective proof? Fitbit did not require me to submit these in the refund registration page, but now they are requesting them in disguised form. I believe they are raising the refund threshold and intentionally rejecting the refund.

Fitbit's customer service has also disappointed me. Their replies always make me patiently wait. After 18 months of patiently waiting, I still can't get a refund. Poor Ionic, we can't work normally now, and some have even been harmlessly treated. Who is responsible for these losses?

They made an huge mistake. After 6 months me hassling them I got my refund not one but twice. Karma baby.

It’s a joke, no matter what I give them they always ask for something else.
Been trying 11 months. Gave them proof of purchase and now they are asking
for the email associated with the device (it is my 60 year old mothers
device that we registered years ago) so I was not able to tell them when
they finally asked for it 11 months after I shipped them the devices.

As I said, Fitbit has already started to refuse refunds without justifiable reasons. I'm afraid more and more people will receive such demands and results, and we should protect our own rights.

Fitbit told me that they refused the refund because they gave it to someone who registered the refund with ionic serial number. Although that person doesn't have an Ionic, having a serial number is enough. This doesn't make sense.

So, do you believe it?

I believe I should receive a refund after waiting for 18 months.

Well I am in shock, I've actually received my refund. It's taken a few months, many phone calls and then patience.

Any one had any success with the discount page??

How did you get the refund? Did you get it today?

I originally paid for the watch using PayPal, so the refund appeared in my PayPal account in the last few days.

I went through Fitbits process to obtain the refund, I called Fitbit and the Recall team several times. To be honest I had written off getting the refund at all, so it was a total surprise.

Good luck with yours..

I have returned my fitbit ionic in January '23 via my cousin in the US. I received a mail on 13th April '23 that device is received and return is processed and that I will receive a refund in 10 days. This was 7 months ago. I have still not received the refund.
