What are the meanings of cardio etc on Heart Rate graph

Hi

 

I have been looking at my heart rate graph and it is very interesting, but can anyone explain why/what/how the data comes about?

I have not exercised once today, yet there is 7hours 47 minutes in Fat burn?!?!  Cario 18min and Peak 1min!!! 

 

THe most I have down today is walk to my car, drive to my son's football training, stand there, driven back and eaten lunch. 

 

I have not at any stage 'worked out' 

 

Maybe there is a calibration setting to go through?  And I know I have a high heart rate...I am fat 🙂

It all stems from your calculated maximum heart rate which, in turn, depends on your age.

if you think the data is completely off, you can adjust the zones at the bottom of https://www.fitbit.com/settings/profile

i'd consult medical advise for the correct Heart values

Thanks I have checked this and I cannot see how I can edit the range on three heart rate zones?

It only allows for one custom zone, I want to be able to edit Cardio/Peak/Fat Burn so the rates show a true value to what I am doing.  As sitting here not writing I am in the FAT burn section.

i'd say this are the three thresholds, that mark the beginning of cardio, fat burn and max.

just give em meaningful values (in your case higher than you see em now in your heart-rate graph) and see if that does the trick.

How can I give them meaningful values when there is no way of editing them?

So a little confused how I can edit and give them meaningful values? I have changed the max to 170 which is based on my age.

@wood1e2You need to decide what your readings will be.  To start with your maxHR will be 220-age and from there you can calculate the others..

 

You need this link to work out your current zones and then make adjustments

 

In summary 

 

 

peak zone is  85% of maxHR = 220-age

Cardio range  70% -84% of maxHR

Fat Burn range 50-69% of maxHR

 

A senior like me my Fat burn cuts in at 71bpm...  Got to the bathroom at night and I always get a couple of minutes of Fat burn..Smiley Happy

There is no 'edit cardio' or 'edit peak' or 'edit any zone'

Where do I enter the the data so my 'Fitbit' knows what is the difference between 'Cardio' and 'Peak' or Cardio and Fat Burn

 

I am not questioning what my 'heart rates' for each zone should be I am questioning the ability to edit or enter such data into my fitbit/dashboard/profile

You can't change the 3 default zones. They are based on your age and are fixed. You do have the option of setting a single custom zone but this replaces the default 3 zones. Check the section in that help file for "custom zone"

Oh right that's a bit crappy.

As it makes that data the Fitbit produces rubbish and a waste of time!!

I can't believe the designers of this tech could have been so short sighted or incompetent!!

Actually work in tech field I can!!! Oh that's worse as I am now surprised that I was shocked they could have been so incompetent/short sighted 🙂

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @wood1e2, hope you're doing great! As you were advised by @SteveH@Colinm39, and @d_k, you can find all the information about the heart rate in the article What should I know about my heart rate data?

 

At the moment, instead of using the 3 default zones you can create a custom zone if you're targeting a specific heart rate. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon and find Heart Rate Zones. Then enter your custom zone.

On fitbit.com, log into your dashboard and click the gear icon in the upper right. Choose Settings > Personal Info. There you can enter your custom zone.

Interesting; I've edited my maximum heart rate (155) per my age (65) as I don't see offhand what the default value is.  I take issue with the wording used.  I think 'peak' implies where you want to be, not at the near or over maximum level. I think a very helpful feature would be if the watch alarmed you if you exceed your maximum.  Often I'm working a hill on my bike then check later and see that I peaked at over 160 bpm, which I shouldn't get to.  Depending on who you talk to it is not only dangerous, but is not as productive as staying in the cardio zone.
