What do you Think of your Ionic so Far?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I just ordered the new Ionic and it should arrive on Friday and was wondering about the ones that have received their Ionic so far what do you think?

  • is it very heavy or light ?
  • is it to big ?
  • what to you think about transferring music?
  • how is the battery life?
  • is the screen bright enough?
  • do it stay on long enough to read your text messages and can you respond to texts from the watch.
  • how is the accuracy
  • I'm sure I will have a lot to say once I get mine in, i'm going from my Microsoft Band 2 that I loved and will miss dearly

Pretty poor start to be honest. The design and construction are great, the fitness side of things seems to be fine (apart from the fact that there doesn't seem to be any way to stop a coached exercise session once started). However the smartwatch side sucks especially in the UK. Not one single bank has been signed up for Fitbit Pay yet and the weather app only shows the temperature in Fahrenheit. I've now discovered that notifications aren't working at all for the Gmail app (I'm on a Galaxy Note 😎 and the Telegram app only shows messages if they're timed quite a way apart. I tried the Alto email app but can't select that as my default because the app doesn't recognise it. Resorted to Microsoft Outlook which actually works but isn't my preferred choice. So far I feel like I've paid a lot of money to beta test a product that isn't ready for market yet.

Go to your account, exercise shortcuts the you can set the exercise activity alerts to buzz at different intervals depending on the activity. So for weights the cues are either calories burned or minutes. For run the cues are minutes, miles, kilometers or calories. Once you select the cue type then you set the frequency say each kilometer or 1.5 or 2.

Don't know of a way to set the screen to always on but I've found it always turns on when I look at the screen 100% of the time. I had a Blaze in the past which took a while to "learn" how to flick your wrist to turn it on... so maybe that experience has me doing exactly what's needed to always have the screen on when I look at it.

The screen can be set to always on during workouts. Just click the gear on the exercise shortcut and scroll down to "always-on screen"

Spinning is an option just not one of 7 defaults, change your exercise
shortcuts in the app.

Seems most people like this device. I am not one of them. The ionic has crap build quality. My unit has a small gap where the screen meets the body and light bleed occurs in the top left corner. GPS and the heart rates are way different then another device I am using. The heart rate takes forever to catch up. I can be walking around for 2 mins and this thing will say my HR is 57. This is going back. How do people spend this amount of money and not realize how far off the HR monitor is?

I like it more each day, but I actually hate the band connection compared to the blaze.

The way the blaze popped out completely from the frame was awesome, but I guess I am in the minority with that thinking.  I would frequently pop it out to put it in my pocket if I needed to register steps pushing a shipping cart.  Then the steel milanese band would sit very flat in the pocket as well.

This thing is massive in the pocket, and disconnecting the bands is not as user friendly as the blaze situation.

You mean you run 34 hours non-stop?? How far can you run with that time?

I got mine yesterday. I like the hardware, but the experience so far is not good. Over 1 1/2 hours to setup, not able to connect to my wifi, therefor can't transfer music, I can't even control my music on my phone (android) from the watch and I did set the classic bluetooth to "pair".

I also did a factory reset, but nothing changed.

I may wait few days to see if the release a new firmware that fixes at least these 2 issues before I return it.

I had the same issue being a long time surge owner, someone replied to let me know in the exercise setting there is an "always on" option during exercise.

Fitbit could have made that more prominent in the how to...

Cheers.

Yep. It was 100 miles with 25,000 ft of vert and about the same in descent. But it’s a bit above 200,000 steps.

Rough around the edges but really a nice looking watch.  Much better than my Blaze which barely worked after a month of owning it. So frustrating.

But I am liking the amazing battery life on this thing.  Day 2 and I’m at 82% as I type this.  Wow.

Im really hoping the additional sensor is activated soon and I’m waiting to see what other apps come into the mix.  But First I’d like to see what’s already there polished up a bit more.  There are still time out issue and very slow syncing when using the app to adjust things.

Overall I do like it so far despite some hiccups.

  • is it very heavy or light ?  It was fine.  I forgot that it was there.
  • is it to big ?  At first, I thought it was big, but I think that was mostly because I usually don't wear a watch.  Now I'm used to it and I don't really notice that it's there until it buzzes.  It's quite comfy even with the included band.
  • what to you think about transferring music?  I was easily able to transfer music after reading that you need to create playlists in Windows Media or iTunes first.
  • how is the battery life? It wasn't that great at first, but I forgot to turn off GPS.  After seeing the low battery symbol at 8am, I turned off GPS and the thing didn't die on me before I was able to charge it at 8pm.
  • is the screen bright enough?  I had to dim it, so yes, it was bright enough.
  • do it stay on long enough to read your text messages and can you respond to texts from the watch.  It does stay on long enough.  You can't reply.
  • How is the accuracy?  The sleep detection was really good for me.  It detected when I fell asleep at night and woke up in the morning.  It even detected when I woke up when my son cried and when I half way woke up to snooze the first alarm.

  • I got mine on Saturday and so far so good, I really like it.  I’ve had a Force, Charge, Alta and Charge 2 and even tried the Apple Watch, but when I saw built in built n GPS and music for a Fitbit, I was hooked.

Here is my experiences:

  • Form factor is perfect for me.  Much thinner than Apple Watch and Charge 2.  Fits my wrist well.
  • Syncing music takes a long time.  Would be good to sync from phone instead of Mac.  Just a convenience thing.
  • Apple AirPod volume control doesn’t work.   Pairs ok, but can’t adjust volume.  Other BT headphones work well.
  • GPS takes up to 20 seconds to find a signal.  Not too long, but not instantaneous.
  • Setting alarm on watch is easy, but you should have the option to set on the phone.
  • Music doesn’t auto start when you begin running.  Need this feature similar to what Runkeeper has.
  • Need to have audible cues during running.  The Ionic vibrates and displays, but audibles are easier.
  • Screen is crazy bright in full sunlight. No issues seeing display at all.
  • Battery length way better than Apple Watch.  4 days with 60 min jogs before a charge.
  • Love the magnetic charging cable.  Way better than the clips ons like Charge 2.

I am very hopeful that this will be my final wearable.

Glad you made this post.  I'll start with the negatives:

1. The weather app doesn't sync all the time.  Most times I get a message saying I need to sync with the fitbit app. Very annoying when all I'm trying to do is check the weather.

2. I don't have the option to add a credit/debit card to the "wallet" so the app is useless to me right now.

3. I can't seem to sync the ionic to the desktop app.

Positives:

1. As a workout tracker it does the job I expect.

2. Comfortable fit.

3. Looks decent.

The bugs really need to be fixed soon.  The apple watch is out now and I'm trying to be patient with this device.  If in a month I still can't do something as simple as check the weather without complications, I think I may have to get a different device.

The *larger* AW is both smaller and thinner than Ionic. I'm sure the Ionic fits your wrist well, but Ionic is larger and thicker than AW.

Having both the Ionic and the larger AW @bbarrera I would beg to differ. The profile of the AW is thicker, though it is a tad smaller
