What do you Think of your Ionic so Far?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I just ordered the new Ionic and it should arrive on Friday and was wondering about the ones that have received their Ionic so far what do you think?

  • is it very heavy or light ?
  • is it to big ?
  • what to you think about transferring music?
  • how is the battery life?
  • is the screen bright enough?
  • do it stay on long enough to read your text messages and can you respond to texts from the watch.
  • how is the accuracy
  • I'm sure I will have a lot to say once I get mine in, i'm going from my Microsoft Band 2 that I loved and will miss dearly

Totally agree..
I had an Apple Watch and sold on the promise from Fitbit and the ionic..
I use the App for everything and love it.
No other App tracks calories and weight loss as good as Fitbit.
I have lost 70lbs with the help of the Fitbit App!!

I have had this ionic for 3 days and am ready to throw it in the trash.  Not user friendly on setup, had to factory reset twice.  Will work for one day, then I have syncing issues and it won’t locate my WiFi even though I’m sitting 7 feet from it.  I tried several work arounds listed on the forums and none have worked for me.  I cannot do all functions on one device.  Some functions only work from my phone and some only from my iPad.  Support told me something is not working (really?). And for me and to give it a few days.  I’m ready to return it and go back to my.  This Ionic is not worth the headache.

I have not had any syncing issues with my ionic, but I can say that setup was tough since it had to update for about an hr first .

the only other issue I had was the syncing of music and the wifi wich I really don't care about because everytime I'm at the gym or running I have my phone will me and listen to me groove music or tune in.

Since I purchased the ionic my mom and sister also bought them on black Friday and they have windows phones and I set them up with out any issues.

I will try the wifi thing again since fitbit updated their app now.

maybe you have a bad watch and you should replace it if you having issues ...

It sounds like he does have a bad device, but that doesn’t negate the plethora of issues many are having. The same exact issues over many devices. See, you are content without the music on your wrist, but that is what the next generation of fitness wearables is going towards. One of the things I was looking forward to.

I don’t like having the distraction of my phone in the gym, and I feel it severely has a adverse effect on those who can’t put it down or get tempted to answer emails, text messages or phone calls. The idea, the promise, was to have a device were no phone was necessary. That is the future, being content with outdated technology is fine for you, but not for the rest of us.

Syncing still does not work well on my Samsung S7.

I finally found a way to make the Fitbit Ionic consistently sync when I want.
I had to remove the Fitbit app from those that my Android Samsung S7 consistently put to sleep automatically.
But I still need to make sure that the Fitbit app is active (the screen needs to be on).
I have to keep always sync through the day in the app but I still need to manually connect the Ionic to the wifi available through the Fitbit app (even if the wifi was saved).

I am frustrated that the Fitbit Ionic cannot just sync on bluetooth at constant intervals by itself like the Fitbit charge used to do.

Several of the Apple Watch apps rely on the iPhone for work outs which drove me crazy.  One could only use the phone GPS.

Anyway, I copied 4GB of music to my Ionic and the only issue was it took a long time.

I actually switched from an iPhone to a Pixel XL and both had no issues syncing.  My guess is eithe Samsung does things differently or people are getting defective hardware.

no matter the Ionic is 1000x easier to use than the Apple Watch. I got sick of paying for apps that didn’t work together and still didn’t work as easily as the Ionic.  Seriously. Why charge people for a sleep tracking app that forces you to MANUALLY enter when you fall asleep? That is the dumbest thing ever!

Guess it just depends on what your interest are. I enjoyed the sleep tracker, but I don’t miss it. And who’s to say Apple won’t adjust this with a software update. To say the Ionic is 1000x better is compete asinine. I keep hearing people talk about using multiple apps, but so far I use Activity and Nike+. Everything else I use is part of the dang watch, no different than the Ionic.

Sleep tracking.. Calorie tracking. Weight tracking.  Etc.  Nike and UnderArmour apps don’t work well together.  Myfitnesspal was the best of the bunch and this an UnderArmour app.

not to mention the small hard to read user interface for those who don’t run with reading glasses.

even worse, many of the apps that semi-work cost extra.

The Samsung phones seem to have a lot of problems with syncing - it appears there is a problem with the way they share the antenna between WiFi and Bluetooth. If the WiFi is turned off on the phone, the Bluetooth seems to work much better.  I replaced the Samsung phone with HTC One M9, and have not a had a problem syncing since, but that was quite a while back and I haven't had any experience with Samsung devices recently.

I see, but that’s software that can be easily added, plus I can see my calories just fine, and have the Aria for weight syncing, and that data goes right to my phones app.

Well, I had the Ionic, and now have the 42mm Apple Watch, they are watches, they both have small screens. You what’s good good for a small screen? Audio.

LoL!!!

audio for reading steps and distance?

why buy a watch if you use audio to tell the time??

if you use the Aria scale your best option is the Fitbit app.

Now your just being ridiculous. All I’m saying is your point of a small screen and reading it, is moot. The visuals are all miniature. Maybe one day you can put your tablet on your wrist so you can see the characters, but with these periferials that is not the idea.

And no surprise, my point went right over your head. I do have the Aria scale, I bought it back when I got my Blaze. I still use my Fitbit app even though I have an Apple Watch, I still have my Alta and Flex as well, and I can even use the Sync Solver app to auto sync my Apple Watch data with my Fitbit app.

The point is I just don’t agree with your statements on Apple Watch, just seems like the inability to adapt to things that are available to you. The Ionic is just not that great. Maybe it will be, maybe the next gen Fitbit will be, but the proof is there. Read the forum.

I received an iconic a little over a week ago. For the last couple years I've used a heart rate monitor chest strap and my phone to track gym workouts, runs, biking sessions. The two big down-sides for me here were having to strap on the chest strap for heart rate monitoring and lugging the phone around. This was what I was mainly hoping to avoid with the iconic. I don't care so much about tracking every step.

First impressions:

+ Setup seemed pretty straightforward.

+ battery life as advertised... I'm getting 5 days so far. I only use GPS 2 - 3 times, week

+ light weight and convenient on my wrist, IF I decide I can drop using my chesty band and carrying my phone.

- GPS accuracy: either the iconic is off, or my phone is. I've used it 3 - 4 times and the iconic is consistently coming in shorter (5% or more) than my phone GPS. I assume is also throwing off pace calculation and such. This is a disappointment. When running, I was liking the pace display, but what good is it if it's not accurate. The first time I used GPS, I didn't wait for it to connect, and I was a couples tenths of a mile into the run before it connected.

- Heart rate accuracy seems to be off as well. I've tried t over three running sessions, the last one I tightened the band to the point of being uncomfortable, but it didn't seem to completely resolve it. High and avg rates read higher than my older chest band (as much as 6%). And, not consistent, at points along my run it might jump 40 - 50 or drop 40 - 50 and then stay in a tight range for several minutes, then have another abrupt change and stay in that range for several more minutes.

- No FM radio. I was hoping to eliminate the need to carry a radio at the gym. If you agree, go vote for this feature request.

+ Like the weather app for quick look at upcoming weather.

- Lack of audible alarm... even with vibration set to strong, I'm worried I'll miss an alarm.. minimally, they should repeat until you acknowledge.

I'll continue to use it. Hopefully figure out accuracy issues, as that will probably probably drive me to another alternative if I can't get them resolved.

Here we are in January, and all this issues still exists, plus a bucket load of others. The package and display are awesome, extremely durable. I think the hardware is also good, that is good news for those of us that own it, but the software is terrible! I'm thinking I am going back to my charge till they fix it. I never use the Pandora feature because it is unreliable and I need music when I work out, I bring my phone, the Charge 2 is solid, battery lasts longer, notifications work, I think the heart rate algorithm is better, the list goes on and on.
I hope these software issues get resolved soon though, I'm a huge fan of Fitbit, but not the Ionic, I would not recommend anyone buy one.

I've had mine since October and while there were a few teething issues with it, they are, for the most part, resolved.  Syncing seems much more reliable and that was a huge issue for me.

People that come hear need to remember that most if the people that come hear and post are the people with issues. There may be a lot out there without issues. For the most part I only have a couple little quirks like having to reboot the watch a second time to get watch face colors And options to change..Pandora works perfect for me. I use it daily and playlists update fine. Music transfer worked with no issues. It is slow transferring. Sync, for the most part, has been fine. On rare occaision I have to remove ionic from the Bluetooth list and reopen the app but it has not been often. I didn't want all of the bells and whistles of the other big names.. I am fine with just seeing my message on the phone and not replying. Watches are too **ahem**ed small to type in and I hate voice commands. All I wanted was the fitness, sleep and heart monitor. The heart monitor has been very accurate for me (never used a chest strap). It is right on it within one of my wrist blood pressure cup every time. Because of health issues I am limited to walking (though I do Steven miles a day) so I can't say how it does running. As far as tracking distance who knows. I have tried three different devices to track my walk distance and everyone was different.. All in all I am happy. I hope they do updates and fix everyone's issues and the little issues I have., It's a new device. We are basically beta testers and with the hundreds of phones (brands, old vs new etc) there is no way they can test everything.

I am pretty happy with mine so far.  It syncs ok, music downloaded onto it works, tracking etc all good.  I like the increased detail from my old Charge.  My only issue is that it seems to need charging every couple of days.  There must be something running that is eating up the power (I do have GPS turned off unless running).  I would like to see walk and hike options for exercises though.

You can select Walk in the Exercise meniu (on the phone app). Just delete one of the activities you don't use (ex: Swim) and add Walk instead.
