When Ionic is paired with ear buds, phone can't connect to ear buds

I have noticed that after playing music from the Ionic, my phone won't reconnect to my ear buds. Essentially, I will have to "remove" the ear buds from the Ionic, unpair them. Then my phone can connect. Is there some setting that I am missing?

 

 

Ionic (updated app and firmware), Samsung S8, Jabra Elite [SMART] ear buds

I used to turn my earphones off to disconnect with Ionic but now I just switch the music output device to smartphone if I want to continue using them.  This only works if you haven't paired your smartphone to Ionic as an output device.
