Has anyone at Fitbit or in the private realm figured out why these watches are shutting down and becoming unresponsive. I am willing to try and fix mine if it is hardware, but based on what i am seeing it is software related.
The lady with customer service today advised me it was my battery. I asked for an explanation of how she came to that conclusion and she said based on you completion the steps i gave you (pushing the buttons to do a reset).
I asked for tech support and was denied that transfer.
If anyone has went into the watch and fixed theirs, please let me know.

@wilsontc81 many of us are having the same issue with our ionics. However, Fitbit will do nothing since our ionics are (in most) out of the warranty period (even for a few months). So, to the best of my knowledge, we can only move to another brand while spread the notices about the poor quality of Fitbit devices. Thereby, the company will understand clearly our messages.

Same boat here. Bought mine after Christmas 2017. Back at the beginning of August sleep tracking on mine quit working (HR data still appeared to be fine). About a week later HR stopped working. Now sleep tracking doesn't even work at the most basic level. Makes me wonder if steps are even accurate at this point.
I have factory reset the watch at least 5 times to no avail. Even chatted with tech support to see if there were any unlisted steps/known issues as there seem to be quite a few people with the same problem. Spent an hour being walked through the same exact steps with the same end result.
The only odd thing I noticed is that via the API the watch sends minute lvl HR data (looks accurate to me) in 7-9 minute interval batches. No rhyme or reason in the timing (once per day, a few times per day, or hours apart), but almost spot on lengths of time. Fwiw I let the chat support person know, and documented my problem(s) 🤷:male_sign:.
At the end of the day, I currently have a very expensive electronic clock & notification device on my wrist, lol. I expected a minimum of 2.5 years of use out of something this expensive. My wife's apple watch purchased 6 months prior to my ionic is still going strong. Holding out a sliver of hope this update fixes it, but not holding my breath. I like Fitbit. I just don't have faith nor the cash to burn $300+ every ~18 months on a device. I do know one thing though, my personal money will sure speak louder than the words in this post when I spend $2-400 on my non Fitbit replacement watch in the next couple of months.

Andrew, a device of this caliber should not just stop working out of the blue for at least 4 or 5 years. Yes it may wear down, battery life may suffer, support for updates and such may drop but it should not just die suddenly. A lot of these devices are not even making it a full year.

I have been chatting back and forth with customer service via email. There is no fix, they wont admit there is a problem with other watches. Only that mine went bad and that there are not many other people complaining about this.
Not only this, but they really arent even looking for a solution, based on the email I have.

Fitbit will never acknowledge the problem (for sure).

The number of posts here show they are full of **ahem** that very few people are complaining. Likely add a few hundred to that for the people who quietly accept Fitbits punishment for buying their products and move on or take them up on the offer to buy another broken product.

Sorry no help for your issues, but I have been complaining on the phone and via chat to Fitbit for over a month now about a still in warranty ionic that has issues. Getting my 2nd pebble replacement today, the first one was dead on arrival, so we will see if this one finally works and then how long it lasts. Fitbit's answer to everything is to factory rest and then if you are out of warranty or if they have already fulfilled a replacement they want you to spend more money on their sub par devices. They clearly do not care about loyal customers anymore. Time to move on with my money to a different manufacturer.
UPDATE: Replacement pebble came yesterday and had scratches on the face of the watch!! REALLY FITBIT. Now I have to send this one back to them and wait till they receive it so they can send out the third attempt at replacing my ionic!! This is beyond ridiculous.

Hello I have the same issue and mine is still in warranty i have had 4 Iconic in the last 18 months, they all go the same way, I have about another 4 months left on my warranty but to be honest expect the same thing to happen again, they are selling faulty products. and then replacing faulty products with faulty products under warranty.
Has anybody taken legal action against FITBIT? i saw there was a massive legal case over this very issue of FITBITs faulty products, but cannot find specific details. This must be a trading standards issue.

There seems to be a common theme here doesn’t here...
Ionics are simply a faulty product not
made to last the test of time. Perhaps it’s poor manufacturing, perhaps it’s just choosing poor quality components, or perhaps it’s just part of their plan to try and keep users buying more products.
Regardless, it’s poor service and poor products. All I see are complaints and users unhappy with the customer service and brand.
