Will the Ionic track aquafit class?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is using the Ionic to track aquafit.  I currently own an Alta but I am considering a switch as a personal reward one day - but only if it tracks my main activity.  I adjust "My Fitness Pal" now to included it.

Thanks,

Ruby

I've never tried it, but I don't see why not....the tracker is water resistant in over 100 feet of water....something tells me you won't be exercising in 100 feet of water! 😄

Yes, though you would probably need to create a custom activity of Aquafit and use the Workout mode and then rename the workout manually in the app afterwards. But yes, you could use it to track your aquafit (though not using smart track)

The only thing I'm wondering is about the heart rate monitor and water. In the Ionic Swim mode, the heart rate is disabled, as its optical sensor doesn't work well underwater. You may have to log it under the Swim mode, which wouldn't have heart rate data, if that's OK.

You could try another mode like Workout, but I'm not sure if the heart monitoring would be accurate in that case while in water. Because Swim mode disables the heart monitor's LED light, I suspect you'd need to have the heart monitor disabled while in water.

Here's an article describing the different exercise modes. Best of luck.

@WavyDavey  When I swim I usually just use smart track and it records heart rate. The heart rate is too high but looks reasonable appart from the peaks (mine peaks at about 180 which is much higher than what I am doing, but most of it looks approximately realistic). The calorie burn is about 1/3 higher using smart track over swim mode, I assume because of the elevated heart rate recording,  but I can live knowing that. So I think you could use either swim or workout, knowing the limitations of both.

Thanks for the response, @NellyG. I don't swim, and was going off this thread with my comment. If I read it correctly, HR will work when swimming is auto-tracked, but disabled if the Swim exercise mode is used.

@WavyDavey Yes and I agree with  what you said. Just that there are different levels to what is meant by HR not working. I does seem to work - more or less!, but is not really accurate.
