Won't connect to WiFi and won't sync

I have been having syncing issues since end of July. My ionic won't sync. I am sick and tired talking about pie. I would like to address other issues. Like nit being able to sync no matter what version on android. And nit being able to locate my wifi. My ionic is less than 6 months and won't even give me the correct time.

Hello @SheWatt.

Let me help you figure out what is going on with your Ionic.

I will be moving your thread to the Ionic board as I think it is better suited for it.

In regards to the WiFi situation, I recommend that you try to read through this article, that should definitely help you out.

In regards to the syncing, I have some questions to ask:

  • What phone is it that you are using? The Android 7 one.
  • Do you get any sort of error message when you try to sync?
  • Did you had notifications setup with your previous phone, I'm assuming an Android Pie one at the moment?

If the answer to the last question is yes, please try to go into that phone's Bluetooth settings and look for your Ionic in the Bluetooth settings. If it is there, please remove it from that list and try to sync again. This would severe the bond between the two that could impede it from syncing with other devices.

Look forward to your reply.

First. The wifi issue started when i had a new modem installed in my home. It was the same as my old modem and works fine with everyrhing else. Consequently this happened at the same time as the syncing issues. Also i do not have a phone running pie. My phone was running android 7 before the syncing issue and is still running android 7. My phone and ion we perfectly compatible before and now are not. The only change has been the updates to the fitbit app. My version of Android has never changed. I did not have an issue with my ion-wifi or syncing -- until that first fitbit update in August.

Hello @SheWatt.

Thanks for answering my questions and letting me know when did this start.

The WiFi connection issue could be happening because of the new modem is running on a different bandwidth. The Ionic will not connect to 5GHz, 802.11ac, I've seen some instances of users having this issue. Do you have access to another WiFi connection you could try?

As for the syncing, let's try to follow the steps in this article. They should definitely help out.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

I will check the wifi bandwidth. As for the syncing issues. I have done all the things suggested. Your software is broke.

Hello @SheWatt.

Please do check on it and keep me posted.

As for the syncing, what phone is it that you are using? What model?

In the meantime let's try to set it up as if it was a brand new device. I've seen several instances where that helps to get it to sync.

Look forward to your reply.

Well. I rolled back to the 2.74.2 firmware and now i sync and found my wifi. So whatever the syncing issue is it messed with my wifi connection too because now they are both working. As long as i don't update i should be ok.

Well. I had to google for the previous software for the fitbit app used on my phone. First if you downloaded the app from the app store you have to delete it. Then find the previous version on the net by searching for it-sorry i do not know the apple version. Download it. You may need to change permissions for downloading on your phone. After you download and install follow the directions. Make sure auto updates are off in the app before you open it. Android does this through the list of installed apps in the app store. Once you do this you should be able to sync. It did take awhile to get a connection the first time. Make sure the update is prior to july 30 2018. You may also want to create a post specific to apple devices.

Hello thanhpsbkh,

Can you kindly share what you did exactly to fix the problem? i have an iphone 7 with ios12. How did you download the previous version of fitbit app?

I bought the ionic a few days ago and it just wont sync and i don't know what to do. I had to borrow another phone just to set it up initially.

Thanks!

You have to Google the fitbit ap version prior to July or prior to the last iPhone update. Then download that version. Make sure you uninstalled the app store version first. I am using android an I googled for an earlier firmware.

Thanks for jumping in here @jmasyed! Have you tried what @SheWatt shared with you? Are you still having difficulties syncing your Fitbit?

In the meantime, I'd recommend to see: Why won't my Fitbit watch connect to Wi-Fi? and Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

Looking forward to you response!
