so i select bluetooth classic settings and put it on pair and then pair it in my phone's bluetooth setup page, then everything works great. i see the band name and song name of everything that's playing, all the controls work fine. the issue is that a day latter (or whatever) if i want to control the music on my phone from my ionic again i have to either repair or reset up everything to get it working again. if i just repair it, the player controls work but it doesn't get any song artist / track name info. on my samsungs, everything was automatic, i didn't have to set it up once, much less every single time.
any ideas? is this just how primitive the ionics music connection / features are? or is this a bug?

I don't know if you figured it out, but on the Bluetooth Classic screen on the Ionic, where it says "on" in the corner, if you touch it it should cycle to the next option. Select Pair and it should show up in your phone's Bluetooth devices as Ionic Classic now.
At least that's how it worked on my HTC A9.

I’ve just done this and found the same it now won’t pair via Bluetooth and no music shown.
Ive deleted the music app.
IPhone 8. I’ve just swapped to the ionic from the blaze as no battery warning or levels.
Music worked well on that.
will let you know how I get on.

Found all day sync switched off.
i then put it on and it asked to be paired and now showing on Bluetooth list connnected.
Now swipe down from main screen and show music menu then tap on top left and select phone as source.
Come out of that menu and he presto music control from your phone. 😀

I have been dealing with this constantly but I think I may have found out what the issue is. Along with the Bluetooth classic connection, the music player needs to be in the background (or running) at the time of connection ( I just keep it on in the background)
Current setup:
Galaxy Note8 (Running Android Oreo)
Fitbit ionic: 27.32.4.19
Fitbit app version: 2.69
All day sync: On
Always connected: On
Keep Alive widget: On
I have rebooted my ionic about 8 times. Each time, when I go back to the music settings all I need to do is change the music source from the watch to the phone and it shows the music information.
Edit: or maybe not...... I just closed the app and rebooted my watch. When I switched the audio source to the phone, it had the last song that was playing, and It was playing music even when the Spotify app was not open or in the background.... I'll keep investigating.....

Same here Dave, so disappointed at my IONIC, I can't find bluetooth classic and it won't allow me to control spotify. Returning this defective product, switching back to Blaze!

Ever since the most recent update, my Ionic has been working flawlessly when it comes to controlling music. I have rebooted and restarted my phone and ionic multiple times and each time its reconnected and worked perfectly. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

I tried everything I see here but don’t see the interface in the ionic to control the music playing on my phone. How do you control whats playing from the ionic?

Hey Cedear23!
What device/ OS are you currently running, and what firmware version of the Ionic are you on?
Also check to make sure that if you're connected to your Ionic using Bluetooth classic if you're on an Android device
Currently this is what I'm doing to control music from my ionic:
Before connecting to any external Bluetooth headset device, press and hold the left button to bring up the context menu and swipe to the right to access music controls.
In the music menu when it asks for a source, tap the phone icon and it will show one of two things:
The media that your phone is playing currently
or
a message stating that music that you play will show up there
Please let me know if this helps!
