steps while charging

So I returned my first ionic because the Fitbit help line told me the steps while charging was because the hardware was defective.  I figured it couldn’t hurt to return it and get a second with a new 30 day return window.  Well tonight I charge the New Ionic for the first time and guess what.... 6,000 bonus steps.  I’m going to give it one more charge cycle and if it does it again so long Fitbit.  Ionic definitely not production ready.

Is IONIC your only product. Does this happen with other pedometers / surges / blazes etc at the same location? If it does happen with other pedometers where do you live?

If it doesn't happen with other pedometers looks like ionic's step count algorithm is (also) broken as designed.

I have a Fitbit One but disconnected it from my account.  I never has any issues with the One it worked perfectly.

Do you have anything that could be causing any sort of vibration near by?

I have seen step counters freak out due to vibrations from say... a fan close enough to the device.

Just something to investigate.

No fans.  I have a charging station set up on a bookshelf, shouldn’t be any vibration.  Also the same spot I used to charge my One without issue.
