Biking - calorie count based only on time, not distance. (And of course not elevation)

Fitbit does not take into account distance for estimating calories when cycling. Only time. But it usually has the data for distance, so this can and should be factored in to the calorie count.

If I bike for an hour but only go 1 mile, my energy expenditure is totally different than if I bike for an hour and go 20 miles.

Unfortunately Fitbit doesn’t track elevation gain and that also makes a big difference. However it would be nice to be able to manually add elevation gain and have that enter into the calculation.

20 miles in one hour on the flat uses a lot less energy than 20 miles in one hour with 1,000’ of elevation gain.

Calorie burn per minute is based on heart rate to measure how hard you are working regardless of the distance.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
