LUXE broken after being in water once.

Hi, in August of 2021 I got a Fitbit Luxe for my birthday. I've never gotten it wet until a few days ago, apart from showering with it once on, on water lock. Two days ago, on Thursday afternoon, it was quite a hot day & so I went swimming with it on, I had it on water lock, I went swimming with it the last a day before that (Wednesday), and it was fine. After swimming the watch was fine, I un-water locked it, and continued my day, went to sleep with it on & woke up to it not working. I've done the force restart method, with clicking the button on the charger 3 times in a row & waiting 10 seconds, and then repeating & the most progress I've gotten is the Fitbit logo repeatedly flashing on and off. I've put it on charge and tried syncing it & nothing works. I really don't know what to do, I've tried drying it out (just letting it sit in my room), and using reset methods...I don't want a watch that was 200+ dollars when I bought it to go to waste, if anyone knows what to do, please let me know. I'm Australian if that helps..

Hi, @emmajanexx , ideally if you suspect a Fitbit is not working because it has gotten wet, you should avoid putting it on the charger until it is thoroughly dry.  However it may still come back to life if you allow it to dry completely.

The best way to do this is to put it in a bag of uncooked rice.  The rice will gradually soak out and dampness.  This can take some time, and I always recommend people leave their Fitbit in rice for a good 72 hours.  It is really important for it to dry completely, so please be patient!

After it has had 72 hours in rice, put it on to charge as normal, even if it continues to be unresponsive and does not seem to be charging.  After it has been on the charger for 2 hours, repeat the restart procedure, making sure that the Fitbit is still connected to the charger.  Be careful with the button press - you need to pause briefly after each press.  If you say the words out loud, that should give you the right rhythm, so it’s “press-pause-press-pause-press” then wait.  You may need to try this several times, but with luck your Fitbit will come back to life.  Fingers crossed!

It is also worth trying to change the clock face on your Fitbit, if you are able to.  If this brings your device back to life you can then change it back to your preferred screen

If it does recover, I would advise not swimming with it again.  The water resistance can deteriorate over time, due to exposure to swear, sunscreen, cosmetics, heat, etc.  Just fyi the water lock does not turn on or affect the water resistance in any way - it just deactivates the touch screen so that splashing water does not cause your settings to change while you are swimming!  **nb so it is also a good idea to turn OFF the water lock when your screen comes back to life**

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for replying!!! Unfortunately, I have done all of that, I can't get it off the loop of the flickering Fitbit logo no matter what I do. The water lock is off as I could use the watch for a few hours after swimming. It's stuck in a restart loop, the only thing it can do is vibrate occasionally when doing the restart method (press, pause, etc) and the only thing the face shows is the Fitbit logo on and off. I can ensure the Fitbit is completely dry...

@emmajanexx , my advice is to put the Fitbit a bag of raw rice for 72 hours before you do anything further.  Have you done that?

Hi, @emmajanexx , unfortunately if you are confident that your Luxe is completely dry and you have tried the reset procedure, and it is still not working, then I don’t think anyone in the Community will be able to help further.

In most areas of the world the warranty is for one year only, so it is unlikely that you will be able to make a claim for replacement, but you can click on the warranty link at the bottom of every page in these forums to check for yourself.

Even so it may be worth getting in touch with Fitbit Customer Support on Contact.Fitbit.com if you are thinking of replacing or upgrading your Fitbit (I personally really like the look of the Inspire 3, although I have not seen it in person).  I know that in the past Fitbit was able to offer a substantial discount to loyal customers with out of warranty Fitbits looking to upgrade.  I do not know if they are still offering this, but it is worth a try!

I wonder if this is actually down to water at all. I’ve just come on the forum as my Fitbit luxe has suddenly stopped working - a few days of freezing and rapid battery loss, now the screen has gone blank.
All since the recent update and it looks like there are others posting similar problems.  Hopefully it’s a software problem rather than the update has fried the watch, but fingers crossed it might get resolved.
