Luxe counts to many steps when I am on my bike

Luxe is counting waay to many steps on my daily bike ride to and from work.

I am trying to reach a step goal of approx 8000 per day, but I don't know my real step count due to my bike counting to many steps.

Hi, @Loumy , this is always a problem with non-step based activities.  Unfortunately the biking community here at Fitbit seems to be about equally divided between those who think Fitbit shouldn’t count steps at all from biking, and those who think it counts too many, so it’s something a little bit difficult to get just right.  

At heart your Fitbit is just a very sophisticated pedometer, so steps is the basic unit.  Fitbit doesn’t reveal details of its algorithms but basically it is making an attempt to turn rotations of your bicycle wheel into an equivalent number of steps - and that’s not easy.

if you have your phone GPS connected for any bike rides that will probably give you the closest to accurate data.  If you need help on how to connect GPS, please post again - there is always someone here to help.

Alternatively, if you feel you are being awarded too many steps when you ride your bike you may find it is a little more accurate if you slip your Luxe off your wrist and put it somewhere close to your core (like a hip pocket or bra).  Of course doing that you will necessarily sacrifice the heart rate data.

My general sense is that some activities do tend to over award steps, and some (like pushing a grocery cart or stroller) can under reward.  I think on average it works pretty well, and although body worn trackers are typically more accurate with step counts, the benefit of other info you get from a wrist worn tracker (heart rate!) balances it out.
