Luxe is tracking wrong calories when I take it off

I have recently begun making more of an effort to do food tracking on the Fitbit app, and to remember to wear my Luxe Fitbit watch and get calories burned tracked in that way.  There are times when I don't wear the device, however, and I am finding the counts changing in ways that are too large to make sense.

For example, one or two days ago, I took a nap for a couple of hours, and took my Luxe off first.  It was probably off of my arm for about three hours in total.  Before the nap, the Fitbit app showed me as having about 500 remaining calories in my budget for the day.  But when I woke up and looked at the app the next time, it had decreased to about 200 remaining, even though I had not entered any additional food items.

Another example is that today I haven't worn the Luxe at all.  Based on my calculated caloric target and food tracked, I should be about 200 calories over right now.  But the app shows me at 900 calories over.

The appearance -- and I could be wrong, but this is what it looks like -- is that times when I'm not wearing my Luxe are treated as having zero calories burned, instead of my rest burn rate (the BMR?) being applied.  Whatever the explanation, the discrepancies seem too large for the numbers to be right, and they are large enough to make Fitbit tracking less useful for me.  I will sometimes remove my watch during the day, and I never wear it while sleeping.

Does my explanation sound correct, and is there any setting that can be tweaked to address this?
