Luxe with magnetic strap gets undone when facing other metal

I LOVE my new Luxe Fitbit! I also purchased the stainless steel mesh band that has a magnet closure HOWEVER the magnet is attracted to every metal it gets close to and it unsnaps and comes off my wrist! I’ve already had it hanging on a chair, railing and my vehicle and it’s not even 24 hours old! It needs a safety catch!

I just got my luxe this afternoon and I got it specifically so I can get the mesh strap to go with it. Didn’t realise it had a magnetic closure though!!!

Curious to hear how it works for you! It looks great, but I think a blueprint whoops!!

Best Answer

I’d probably only wear the metal strap to dress it up rather than all the time but I’d like to think it would be secure!

do you think yours is maybe defective?

.....unfortunately, this can't be helped. All magnetic closures will be attracted to other metal bits and pieces (even an Apple Watch Milanese loop would do this!!).

Don’t you think Fitbit should consider a safety catch of some sort?

Try yours out and see what you think! I went over to my friends house tonight and left  it hanging on her fridge just to make my point!

This affects me too. My husband has an apple Milanese strap and the magnetic catch does not come undone even if he is resting it on a steel surface. There is no safety catch on the Fitbit metal strap which as soon as it comes undone, the watch will fall to the floor. A serious design fault for something that costs almost as much as the watch !!

Best Answer

I wish they did one with Milanese loop.  I have a cheap stainless steel Milanese loop strap for my Alta HR and never had issues with the magnet, or it coming off.  If I did catch it on something, the loop design meant to stayed on my wrist.  Silly I am disappointed that the £85 one from Fitbit isn't as good as the £12 I got off Amazon...

So the strap actually comes and falls off your wrist? I'm considering getting one myself .... but, unfortunately, seems like it may cause an issue. I wouldn't want it to fall every time I'm at the gym!

I’m not sure if it’s defective! I’d like to hear from other people!

Oh dear , not good for me then! I’m pretty sure I’m going to loose it then!

Thank you Potter1, I thought maybe mine was defective! The strap has been compared to an Apple strap but obviously the magnet clip is much stronger on the Luxe strap and consequently sticks to everything metal it is in contact with!

It’s such a shame because it’s such a sharp looking strap! I’m back to wearing my pink plastic strap! I seriously wonder if Fitbit will replace it! I can’t be the only one with issues!!

Judging by other responses it’s working as designed!

I am surprised that Fitbit released a band that allows a Fitbit device to fall off the wrist. It seems that you do not test your products in real life. Had you have worn the band to test it, you would have noticed the design flaw. I expected a major company as Fitbit to incorporate user tests in their product development process to avoid design flaws.

Fitbit will only fix this design flaw if it receives enough votes? This is very disappointing.

Instead of hoping that Fitbit someday fixes this, I will return my £85 Milanese band and buy a £12 band on Amazon that Maddybc mentioned here

Oh my goodness! I am glad to see I am not the only person who is stunned by the poor design of the magnetic closure on the stainless steel mesh bracelet for the Luxe. The magnet catches on anything that is metal and rips the Luxe off my wrist. I just got the Luxe and set it up a couple of days ago. The magnet on the bracelet has caught on the refrigerator door and ripped off my wrist three times.

I almost lost it this afternoon. I got in my car and headed to an event. After about 20 miles, I noticed the Luxe wasn't on my wrist. I looked around my seat in the car and found nothing. I figured it must have fallen off at home. I drove 20 miles back home and got out of the car to go into the house. The watch was literally hanging on the outside of my car. The magnet was attached to the car and the end of the bracelet was caught on the door. If that hadn't happened, the Luxe would have fallen off the car and been gone.

Fitbit needs to stop selling this bracelet. Please tell your Production/Operations Manager to get one and wear it for a day and then decide if s/he thinks it is a product you want the Fitbit logo to appear on. Who produces something and doesn't test it before it is sold? I can guarantee you that no one tested this bracelet.

I almost bought the link bracelet, but it doesn't look as if it is adjustable. The $80 price tag on the steel mesh bracelet is more than half the cost of the tracker itself. I am going to have to get rid of it because I'm going to lose the entire tracker and bracelet. I would try to return it, but I didn't save the box. Maybe I will try anyway because the bracelet is of no use to me. I like the looks of it, but I wasted $80 on it. I don't want to waste another $150 by losing the Luxe because it fell off my wrist and I didn't notice it. This discussion board is okay, but I'm really not interested in waiting for people to vote on whether Fitbit needs to do something about this bracelet.

@YojanaFitbit Thanks for your quick reply. But I do not understand what you are trying to say. Could you please rephrase you post?

@YojanaFitbit   “ In those cases, I think it's best to check with support team. They will be glad to help.”

In case you meant to say @madmaxin should contact the support team, I already have done that. They said they don’t have any basis to say anything about the issue. Sadly, they weren’t much of a help at all to be honest.

I have the same problem with the mesh band.  I have had the Luxe for 2 weeks or so and have had it come off my wrist many times.  I had a mesh and with my Alta and it never came off. Really bad design.  I hate the plastic wristbands that came with the Luxe.  I hope that Fitbit fixes this problem and replaces the band.

I have the same problem and want to return the mesh strap.  Not worth the hassle.  My mesh strap on fitbit Alta did not have that problem. It stayed on.

The cheap one I have is for my Alta HR, when I last checked no one was doing them for the Luxe, yet.  Some of us have an issue where the metal bands don’t fit to the luxe properly, so I’m in the process of returning my Luxe so I can get one that hopefully connects correctly. But I will be looking forward to non Fitbit options for compatible bands (assuming my issue is resolved and I keep it).

I have also had this issue with the mesh strap. I purchased it as an ‘extra’ strap. I attached it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had coins attach themselves to it and also had it attached to my car. It has come loose a couple of times. The most embarrassing situation was when I was in a business meeting and I ended up with a piece of cutlery dangling from my wrist.
