Luxe won't track my miles when I go for a walk

Hi all.

I have a new Luxe which is working well so far except that when I look within the Exercise section of my app, it shows a breakdown of all my exercise stats as expected except for my mileage which is blank.

On the watch and in the overall summary, both show the miles I've walked over the day but I'm interested in how many miles I have covered just whilst on my actual walks (not including just walking around my house, for example).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hello @Chlothulhu and welcome to the Community.  Can you please clarify how you track your walks?  If you use auto-recognition (SmartTrack), then a distance isn't reported.  It's just the way SmartTrack is programmed.  You do get a distance when you use the Walk shortcut in the Exercise app.

Hi there, @Chlothulhu. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your distance data.

To start, I'd like to confirm if the GPS is indeed enable when you go for a walk? For more information, see How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?

On a side note, as @LZeeW has mentioned, bear in mind that when you're tracking activities using SmartTrack distance won't be tracked. Please confirm that you're using the exercise app to capture real-time stats, including heart-rate data, calories burned, and elapsed time, for specific workouts.

Hope this helps.

GPS is turned on. But it stops tracking midway. Then the map shows only half a route. But as I am walking it keeps counting the meters.

Hi!

Thanks for the reply. I was not using the Exercise part of the app. Only the auto-recognition. GPS is on so I will try this tomorrow and report back.

Thank you.

Hi there, @Mama_Fran. Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums. Please bear in mind that if the GPS signal is lost during the exercise, a map might not appear in the Fitbit app. If you're having issues with the GPS connection, see Why isn't GPS working on my Fitbit device?

@Chlothulhu Sure thing! Keep us posted. 🙂

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay. I kept forgetting to try this before starting my walk.

I tried the Exercise part of the app and the first time I tried it, I couldn't work out how to record a walk rather than a run but eventually I realised that "Run" wasn't a fixed value and when I clicked on it, I was then presented with a drop-down containing "Run", "Walk" and "Hike".

I thought I'd best mention that in case anyone else missed that too.

Once I got it set to "Walk", it recorded as expected.

Thanks for your help, team! 🙂

Update: Also, @MarreFitbit - I accidentally flagged your last response as "Best Answer" when scrolling on my phone but it really should have been the other answer. I don't know if this is something you can change. Thanks.

@Chlothulhu   First, I unchecked your accidental "Best Answer" selection.  Second, I think you need a little more help with the Exercise app on your Luxe.  You described using the phone app as it only does run, walk and hike.  This is a much older way of GPS tracking and isn't recommended for a device like your Luxe.  You want to use the Exercise app on your Luxe.  Here is a link to Fitbit's Help article: How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?  There is a section in the article that tells you how to customize your list of exercise shortcuts.  Here is a good YouTube video that is for the Charge 5, but the Luxe is the same.

My Fitbit actually does connect to GPS. It just keeps losing the connection as I am walking. Therefore I've got to synchronise it with my phone every 2-3 min. This can't be as it should be, right?

@Mama_Fran   Here is a link to Fitbit's Help article: How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?   It's possible that you are missing a setting on your phone, especially if you use an Android phone.  I'm sorry that I don't have more specific advice.  My Fitbit has built in GPS.

Hello! Sorry that it took so long to reply to this.

I was really struggling to find this bit of the app detailed within the instructions and now I feel like a complete lemon! I was trying to find it in the mobile phone app rather than on the watch itself. Now I have worked out that "the Exercise app" is the function on the watch rather than the "Exercise" part of the phone app I think that will give me what I'm after!

Thank you so much for your help and patience.
