Did you mean:

2 lbs a week

I have had a lot of repetitive use injuries side line me this past year.  I did get down over 20 lbs last year only to gain 10 back.  But I am still down 10 from where I was this time last year.  I take heart in that fact.  And now I want to build upon it.  Starting with the first two pounds!

I want to lose 2 lbs a week.  No more than that simple amount.  Just 2 lbs.  I am currently at 360 lbs.  If I start today losing 2 lbs a week, I could be able to get down 104 in year.  I think I would just be happy to get down to 300 by the end of the year truth be told.

Just two pounds.  No more.  No less.  Just two little pounds.

Who's up to join me?  The rules are simple.  Just post where you are today and in a week check back in and up date.  I will be doing it.

Today I weight 360 lbs, but who knows where I will be in a week....

I will be here to support you in your effort, but I am not going to join your project.  Two pounds a week is a very doable goal for you to attain.  My personal suggestion is to find a weight program like Weight Watchers, to help you along the food path.  Exercise alone will never get you to where you want to be. That is just my opinion.  It takes a long time for me to put weight on, and therefore it takes a long time to take it off.  I have lost 13 pounds in the past year, but that is fine.  I would like to lose another 13 pounds in the next year and that would be just fine for me to maintain.

I came across how someone lost 70 pounds in 4 months and thought I would share the details of their diet and what they did in this thread.  Obviously everyone has to personalize this for them....if you eat a kosher diet, then some of the suggestions (like shrimp) won't work for you...but the important thing is that it isn't just getting in the steps that is important.  For someone that has a lot of weight to lose 2 lbs a week in the beginning should be easy, but it takes effort all around.  Just sharing what I read.  Take it for that, PLEASE.

1:  Very low carbs, less than 50 grams a day usually...and those come from "good" carbs in vegetables.  No  alchohol (this was big for me), no bread, no wraps disguised as low carbs, no crackers. Not only are carbs just sugar...I made bad food descisions when drinking.  Bar food sucks!

2:  10,000 steps, 5 miles a day moving.  Notice how I said "moving".  That many "steps" sounds daunting, at first you don't think it will be easy to do...you learn it is not all about going for a few 2-3 mile walks, it is about how you get out of your car a walk. Just go walk to a friends house like you did as a teenager!

3:   I like dogs.  I volunteered at the local Humane Society.  I have a scheduled day I walk dogs, but they can always use the help so you can go as much as you want, meet and work with great people and dogs.  I  go on Thursday mornings and after 2-3 hours I am 4-4.5 miles and am done for the day. Besides, you are doing a good thing!

More detail:

1:  Carbs are sugar, plain and simple.  I have never eated "sweets", hate desert and don't eat candy.  My sugar was Bread, crackers, pasta, alchohol.  The reason you get hungry and have spikes in your mood is because of sugar.  It's was hard at first, but after about 2 weeks my mood got much better, cravings went away.  I started seeing food as fuel for my body.  The weight will pour off of you the first month.

Buy a scale.  I weigh everything.  High protein foods I eat:  Hard boiled egg whites only, 97% hamburger, chicken sausages, turkey, skinless chicken ,shrimp(wow, you can eat all of this you want).I try to use the bbq as much as possible and don't sweat the seasoning, but I never use a sauce out of a bottle.  Cayenne, paprika, garlic salt, whatever...we have bigger fish to fry than worry about these. Buy container of egg whites in milk-style carton.  I mix in one real egg for color and flavor.  You can have a huge omlette with 6 turkey sausages every morning if you want!

New found foods:  Pork Rinds!  I love crunch, and this is the only way I get it.  Go easy. a lot of calories.  Cauliflower!  I had never had cauliflower before 3 mos. ago.  It is like potatoes...it will take on whatever flavor you sprinkle on it.  I will literally eat 3 heads of cauliflower a day sometimes.  You can grind it up like mash potatoes and flavor it, mix it with meatloaf, if you must have bread you can mix grind it down and mix with muffin mix.  Jicama... I had never heard out it but sometimes I cut it up like french fries and bake it. little high in calories for little gain for me.

Some vegs I don't eat over others because of higher carbs, but  lettuce, celery, onions, brocoli, carrots, mushrooms, are my favs.  I go for bulk lettuce and vegetables to fill plate, spiked with peppered egg whites for protein, and a meat protein, usually 4 oz. or so will do...then if I want some crunch a small bowl of pork rinds sprinkled with my fav spice.  I don't really do fruit, but never really did before.  Apples cut up in your food add crunch...which I do sometimes.

2:  Moving rather than walking.  Dog shelter gets me 3-4 miles a few days a week.  I walk to the store.  Walking back with 2 sacks of food in each arm is great for arms.  My theory is if I force myself to walk there, I HAVE TO walk back right?  Double my distance.  I have a dog...rather than just throwing the ball I throw it and walk towards it in the park.  My dog brings it back to where I'm walking and I throw it again.  Before I know it we have walked 1-2 miles.  I usually do this twice a day.  Go shopping at Walmart big box...get a shopping cart and walk every aisle.  Park far away every place you shop.  ALWAYS take your cart back to the store...don't leave it in corral.  Stairs always.  Discover all of the parks and trails in your town...I'll bet there are a lot that you don't know about and have never been.  Vareity, variety.  I swim at the pool.  I hike local trails 1 or 2 times a week.  Dog is a good excuse and always an exercise partner.  If you don't have one, I'm sure a freind would love to have you walk their dog and take it off their hands for a Saturday or two!  Make a little extra money?

3:  I'm 49 and hadn't thrown a baseball since my early twenties.  I had a mountin bike but never rode it.  Start thinking about what we used to do as teenagers...we walked around all day, we threw the baseball, we played football, we rode our bikes to a friends house.  People, it has nothing to do with your age...it is what we don't do anymore.  I bought one of those baseball trainers that return your throw...I'll go to the backyard and play catch with myself for 30 minutes or so.  I bought a used tennis racket and hit a tennis ball for my dog to chase at the park...then I'll hit it against the wall to myself for a while!  When was the last time you shot a basketball?  You do know that they are in virtually every schoolyard in your town, right?  Go to the high school and walk the bleachers...you will feel it! (walk THERE if you can). Hanging on the monkey bars!?  Ha!

Hope this helps give you some ideas...it is so good to see my Dr. smile and ask me what I'm doing.  People will tell you that you look younger, you look happier, you are better at your job...your outlook on life will change.  I'm not a Dr., but I'm convinced there is a corelation between carbs, sugar spikes, cravings, sleep schedule, mood and attitude with eating carbs way in excess of what our bodies were made for...I would do this even if I had not lost 70lbs...I'm serious.  I can live with THIS!

You can count me in @StarEcho, as our goals are similar.  My goal is 2 lbs per week this year with a goal of weighing 100 lbs less.  I have done this before but regained a lot back as many do.  This year I am taking the slow and sustainable road.  Feel free to add me if you want to do step and other challenges.

I can say in addition to the physical activity and food moderation (learn your body and find what works for you), take care of your mental health along the way.  The journey can be quite rough at times given the many bumps.  I think you can make it below 300 this year.  I remember the first time I went below and let's just say it was quite emotional.  Good luck with this 🙂

Ok, it was a hard go of it, but I did bring it down by 2 lbs this week.  I had a bit of a set back with the whole weekend thing and gained two extra!!  I lost those and my goal of two more.  Now I am down to 358!!!  I feel good about how it is going.

Hello, I would love to join you on the journey of getting rid of 2 lbs a week, I got the same goal! I just started on Thursday, and 226 lbs. My biggest problem is that I'm an emotional eater, which I plan on changing on my journey. I'll check in next week, good luck to you.

Reality is we all are emotional eaters....it is what you choose to eat to soothe over the emotional times.  Food is comforting in all situations, but I don't have to sit down with a 1/2 gallon of chocolate ice cream, just choose something better to 'quiet the emotional tidalwave'.

I know how emotional eating can be.  I have been trying to avoid it.  The one thing I think that helps me is stoping to ask is it worth the calories?  The answer is usually no.  Then I ask myself is there something else I could be doing?  That is what works for me.

Ok down another 2 lbs this week.  I didn't know how I did it.  I forgot to wear my tracker all week!!  I have been keeping my breakfast at around 200 kcals.  Lunch is between 300 and 400 kcals.  Dinner is tends to be around 500 kcals.  Snacks and drinks account for 500 kcals through out the day.  And water, lots and lots of water.  Gah!! I think I have been drinking a gallon a day or close to it.  I have added fruits and veggies to my snack regime so those callorie counts should start to drop.  I have been swaping out a fruit protine shake for breakfast and lunch alternatly on days when I don't want cereal, hot meal, or brown bag it.  It has helped a bit.  Dinner time is the hardest because I am with my family.  They mean well.  Honestly they do, but I can't just eat carbs and protein for dinner.

Congrats on the loss so far! I started my weight loss in June of last year and I'm down 62 pounds. I lost on average 2 pounds per week given that time frame. I want to just encourage you that there may be weeks you do not see a decrease in the scale. You may even gain ounces or possibly pounds. I did that many times the past 6 months. Keep up the good work and remember that your mentality is the hardest battle 🙂

Sadly, I know all too well the ups and downs of weight loss.  I have been on the yo-yo for most of my life.  I had been doing great until I got hit with a knee injury.

I have had to find different ways to keep active but off the knee as it heals.  Just Dance sessions with my daughter are fun but I have to be very careful about twisting my knee.  I do go to the pool and walk in the water when I can.  I am hoping that once I get down to about 330 or so I can begin with earnest back at the gym.  At the rate I am going, I should make that by April or sooner.

Most of my weight loss is just cutting out extra fatty sources of food and limiting my calorie intake.  I really have to do some sole searching when I crave the over top fatty stuff.  I have found moderation to be my key to success.  I have a serving of icecream once in a while not every night.  A serving of soda not 3 or 4.

I think the hardest is at home with the family.  My mom made dinner last night.  Pork roast with boild potatoes, carrots, and corn.  That's it.  Protine and Carbs.  The meal ended up feeling like a lump of in my belly.  She means well, but I don't think she quite understands what I, a pre-diabetic, and my father, a Type 2 diabetic, require in the way of nurition.  While it is true there is a wealth of information on the web, my mother is technologicly challenged.  She can use the computer to play games and check her e-mail, but that is it.  She doesn't want to go to nutrition class with me so that is out the window.  I go to nutrition classes with my 10 year old though so I am making sure the trend stops with my generation.

My kid is great.  She has pushed me to get fit so that we can do 5 K's together.  We have several under our belt and a 10 K as well.  We are already planning our next running season.  Color runs and Black light runs are our style.  Fun, family friendly and lots of fun.  I like to get our victory pics after we finish.  I can see the difference in my weight each time.

That is really awesome !

I am proud of you, I'm 24 and weigh about 165 and I have a goal to lose 35 pounds to get back to where i was in high school ( even though i thought i was fat back then, i obviously was crazy and wish i had the confidence then that i have now). I love that you take your daughter with you to your nutrition classes. I would love to get my mom to go to one of those, She also has struggled with her weight almost all her life and she is always trying something to help. At the moment she is doing herbalife shakes. I'm a little hesitant to get her a fitbit because I'm not sure she will use it but there are so many people on here that could motivate her! swap stories and such. Do you take vitamins? If you don't it may be a good idea to start. I take one a day gummy vitamins 🙂

Keep up the good work !!!

I'm shooting for 1lb per week. I started January 1st, and lost more than I planned, about 2.5 per week so far. I expect that will slow. For us guys those first 10 seem to fall off quick. My initial goal is to lose 30lbs by August. I'm well on track for that.

My plan is not to crash diet. More just make better food choices and to track them. Avoid added sugars and reduce fat intake. I like my wine, but I'm limiting that to 'cheat days', which I try to keep to once a week. It really depends on how well I do during the week, if I have 2 or 3 days where my calorie intake is well below my goal, I'll roll them into my cheat day and have a good time.  Heck, I had a 3,000 calorie intake day during that span of losing 10 lbs. It's about choice and not stringing too many of those together.

Most importantly I'm ramping up my activity level. I work a desk job, so getting in steps and some cardio takes some discipline. My girlfriend and I are training to walk a half marathon in April, so that gives us a goal and training plan which gets us walking multiple times per week. Increasing calories consumed has a host of benefits. I'm feeling better and notice my resting heart rate and blood pressure improving already.

Good luck @StarEcho, you can do it. I'll keep you updated on my progress as well.
