Hi! I just saw a thread from 2014 where a group of mom's and non-mom's set a goal to lose 20 pounds by Mother's Day. Anyone want to start one for 2015 with me? I have about 35 pounds to lose total, but 20 by May sounds like a good goal to me.
I am going to try to get my 10,0000 steps in and I am joining a gym this weekend to add strength training and cardio.

Morning healthier women,
New low for me 145.1 this AM. Not bad that makes 7.9 lbs. burned away since Fitbit 1/27/15. Still 5.1 to go and I hope it is the extra weight on my lower belly that disappears as my cheeks don't need to lose any more weight.
Off to Zumba.
All the very best to you,
Barbara G

Yes, Yes, Yes - please count me in. I would like to lose a total of 30lbs and would love some motivation. I am an office working mom which is so hard to get in my workouts but now that the weather is nicer trying to walk at lunch and I do a fat burner elliptical workout at night. I just signed up for weight watchers also because I have no more excuses for being overweight. I am 41 and it isn't getting any easier!!!!

Welcome Chub1031
We are doing this together and we cheer each other on. What tends to motivate you?
7.5 weeks to Mother's Day. Some of us are trying to lose a lbs or 2 a week by MD.
Do you have a weekly goal?
All the best,
Barbara G

Thank you! My weekly goal is 2lbs. My motivation right now is to get healthier for my family. I have hit the "over 40" stage and things are getting harder. I want to get healthier for my family. I have a dad with diabetes that was the onset due to weight and I don't want to be that person.

Great move Chubb
Are you pre diabetic in terms of blood glucose levels? Hope that you are still in the normal range.
You get to eat lots of non starchy veggies and avoid all white flour, rice, pasta, sodas, juice, alcohol, sweets and other junk. At least there is lots of good healthy food to eat.
Do you know about the glycemic index ? It rates foods as to which most raise or lower blood glucose. There is lots of good info about pre- diabetes on line. My favorite is DrFuhrman.com and he wrote the book, End to Diabetes.
Any way control portions and burn it off. Nice gift to your family.
Glad that you are stepping more now that it is the weekend. :-)
All the best,
Barbara

Well I sprained my right ankle while dancing the quickstep lock step. Icing and elevating so barely moving today and yesterday evening. At 8 pm I have a grand total of 377 hobbled steps to fix food, potty, get the ice pack and sit down again. So must stay off it to heal for now. Bummer. It is less painful today so that is a good sign as I navigate with one hiking pole. Still swollen a little so more ice and ibuprofen for me.
I'm not eating a lot as I'm not burning much curled up in the easy chair with one leg elevated. Canceled my Monday classes, too..
Keep stepping. I'm on the sideline rooting for you.

Hi MD challenger's,
Twisted my ankle on Sat. and it is healing some. I can walk on it slowly and I have made a total, dan da na da of 600 steps today instead of 10K or so. But holy cow fitbit wants me to eat only 768 calories, not a chance.. My basal metabolic rate lying down burns 1257 cals. and heck I've been sitting mostly talking on the phone and working at the computer as well as making some basic meals. I think I'll be fine at abt 1000 cals. This morning I hit a new low of 144.4 after my Sunday of sitting, icing & elevating my foot.
Still aiming for 143 or less on Apr 2 but it may be muscle loss due to staying off my ankle.
That would not be what I want.
How are you all doing in active land. Tell about your steps and how well you are doing.
Thinking of you all,
Barbara

barbara, don't forget to ice your ankle! I know how it is to have an injury slow you down.

Thanks Carol & Peg for your good wishes for healing,
Each day I'm able to walk more, altho' carefully. I have managed 2400 so far at 4:00 pm today but now am icing and elevating it.Here is the weird part. I have lost weight sitting on my bum! I hit a new low this AM of 142.1 much to my happy surprise, It is probably my nice muscles leaving me but the tummy is shrinking too which is exactly where I need to lose. .1 more pound and I make my BDay goal of 142. Woo hoo. I'm eating very light tho'.
Enough about me. Tell me about you and your journey. Don't get discourage enough to stop stepping and eating light and healthily.
Tomorrow is Cecig's surgery at 7 AM so let's all send her good wishes for safe surgery and thorough healing.
Best,
Barbara

Hi Barbara.....I hope the recovery with your ankle is healing well. Yes, icing and some Tylenol may help expedite the process. But.....take your time and rest 🙂
I'm very happy for you regarding your weight loss and the goal. You're almost there....well you're practically there....LOL.
My weight loss is stagnant but I know the inches have been coming off. I've changed a few things with my diet in hopes that this speeds up the loss at least a little bit.
I'm still optimistic and focused.....a healthy heart and overall wellness is my goal.
So thank you for all your inspirational words, cheers and friendship.
Cheers to you my dear ❤️

Well thank you Jophiel,
Don't like stagnant but hopefully your recent changes will help. I think that staying hydrated helps and eating lower sodium helps, and not eating late at night when we aren't going to burn much so we store it. People get results with fasting after dinner until breakfast. Walking and dancing after dinner helps. Some people get results by changing their calorie intake. I think eating very healthy calories are vital since we are eating less. If we are increasing exercise we are probably building muscle.
I'm wondering since you are losing inches are you building muscle?
Since insulin is a storage of sugar hormone if the cells haven't used it up within a certain time after a meal. When diabetics type 2 who are on insulin, are losing weight through diet and exercise they need to be working with MD who is helping them to reduce the insulin injected carefully to avoid low blood sugar.
So if we are not diabetic we can still jack up our blood sugar through carb, fat and sugar meals and then insulin is released and perhaps some sugar is stored because it isn't burned.
Don't know if any of that helps but somethings gotta give.
All the best,
Barb
