Hi! I just saw a thread from 2014 where a group of mom's and non-mom's set a goal to lose 20 pounds by Mother's Day. Anyone want to start one for 2015 with me? I have about 35 pounds to lose total, but 20 by May sounds like a good goal to me.
I am going to try to get my 10,0000 steps in and I am joining a gym this weekend to add strength training and cardio.

You are spectacular!!! Holy cow you surpassed your goal and we have 9 days to go.
Oh yes, a new outfit to celebrate is a perfect reward. Watch out bathing suit. Here comes Trish.
Healthy eating and healthy activity to burn those calories. I bet your numbers in blood work will be improved. It looks like giant steps not baby steps to me.
Sooooo proud of you.
Keep in up,
Barbara G

Have you decided what you want to commit to doing yet? Are you trying to slim down or reduce blood sugar or exercise more to strengthen your heart?
Just get started. What kind of support do you need?
Best,

Now as for me, in spite of making my 10k most days and getting that smiley face calling me Champ I have slid back on the scale. I think I need to log all my food carefully again. I munched out on a little too much granola the other night. In general, I eat well and I exercise but obviously I am bouncing up and down on my daily scale weighing results. I began at 153 and today I weighed
144.6 but sadly my goal of
140 is far away for 9 days.
Recently I was down to 142 for a couple days. Maybe a fast is in order before MD.
I'm in my healthy weight range now but my tummy is not a pretty sight pooching out still.
Well off to dance for hours to burn off my 4.6 extra lbs! I have 7500 steps so far and will make my 10K this evening for sure.
So I'm keeping on, keeping on.
How are you all doing? Are you close to your goal?
Barbara

I enjoy this group so much! Congratulations to those of you who are losing. Congratulations to those of you who are sticking with it. I've had a rough couple of weeks regarding my eating. I wasn't feeling well and - well, you know the excuses we can come up with! Rather than sitting here and feeling sorry for myself - I'm getting back in control TODAY. I'd love a new pretty outfit as a reward. What a great idea!

OK I have been reading all these comments for weeks now. I have recently lost 10 lbs and had not been able to now matter what I did for the last 2 years due to two knee surgeries. You name it I tried it. The most likely reason we all have so much trouble losing weight is most likely your hormones are out of wack. I discovered this by attending a lecture a my gym. I started researching this and bought The Hormone Reset Diet by Sara Gottried, MD. More exercise less eating doesn't do it. I was going crazy because I was walking 10,000-15,000 steps an day and wasn't losing an ounce and keeping my calories to under 1300. If one of the 7 hormones is out of wack you will not lose weight no matter what. As soon as I started this I lost weight fast...and I'm 60. Just wanted to throw this out there because I had a hormone imbalance for sure.

Hi Kathy
Good to hear from you. Excuses are lies and I'm glad that you aren't listening and obeying them now. Forward to healthier minds and bodies. We all make excuses but why does the smarter part of us listen to them I often wonder. It is like the devil made me do it. Right? I go on auto pilot and reach for another handful of nuts or recently granola a couple of times then realize it and say just one more. By that time I just added 200-300 calories right before bedtime. Well, what else? it is stored on my apple belly exactly what I'm trying to lose. Lies, lies and auto pilot eating makes me want to shake myself awake. Been better for 2 days now and so far today as well. Back on track with 8 days to go. I hope that you feel better also. We all need ways to comfort and nourish ourselves that aren't food, especially fattening unhealthy food. We need a list of beautiful music to listen to be inspired, a sunset to walk by as we watch, nature nourishing us as we walk, special movies, soaking in the warm bath when we feel sore and stiff, calling a friend and walking as we talk, doing crafts, puzzles, brain games or buying that nice outfit that we get as a reward. Love the idea and when I hit 140 in the next 3 weeks I'm off to get a pretty new top to dance in. Hope that Macy's is having a good sale soon.
So welcome back to choices for health Kathy. It is a new day and maybe we can both lose a lb or so by MD. We can all check in and hopefully we have lost some weight and gotten stronger from when we started.
I'm down only 9 lbs as of this morning's weigh in. I'm headed back down after a bump off of 142 up to 145.6 growl. It is frustrating to go in reverse. Back on course and down for the last couple days.
We are doing this together so I'm in good company.
I'm hoping and working toward 142 something by MD.
Let's be strong and determined.

Thanks Nolty,
I'd like to take a look at the Hormone info as it helped you. At 74 I think my female hormone went missing many years ago. I'm losing slowly and in the healthy weight range just trying to lose the padded tum.
I like learning new info. I'm glad that it worked for you.
10 lbs is a good amount and your knees are probably happier with you.
Best,
Barbara

Hi Bobbi in NYC
It is a new day and you can add 500 more steps to your 5500. That doesn't take long and you can do that while you chat with a friend on the phone. Do you have a friend that might be a walking buddy?
About sweets, I do not buy them and bring them home. I do have pure protein bars covered with chocolate and I occasionally give into eating one of them as a snack. 180 darned calories but 20 gm of protein.
Do you bring the sweets home or are you out a friends house or restaurant? Are you hungry when you give in or just stressed out..
Writing in a journal or talking it through with a trusted friend helps with the emotions. It is important to listen to what we are feeling and thinking around the emotional eating. How else can we comfort ourselves.
You have been doing great so I'm sending you a big warm hug from the other coast. Let's forgive ourselves and rededicate ourselves to moving more and eating well.
We can do this, we really can.
Best,
Barbara in CA

Hi Bobbi
I just read your reply and thank you for the encouragement and support. Made it back to 144 today so that is good. I'm healthy and active as you remind me but I want to lose this 4 lbs of belly fat. I was so exhausted last night that I sat and did jigsaw puzzles and mindlessly watched the boob tube instead of dancing. When I saw it was almost 10 PM and I was at the computer in my nice dancing clothes I faced the fact that I needed to get up and walk the steps. I called an out of town friend in Seattle and walked in circles around my studio until the 10K buzzer went off. Hurray. I slept 9 hrs. and I feel like a new person again. Up to 5000K so far today as I talked to my sister and nephew both and walked. Right now it is time to hang 2 more cabinet doors and put stuff back in the drawers, that were sanded and refinished. Off to water the garden then and tonight for sure I'll see if I can find some good dancing.
It is all about keeping balance in our lives.
Breathe in 5 huge breaths of soothing calming energy and breathe out the stress. Now go for a lovely walk. Turn on your favorite music and dance. You deserve good health and happiness.
All the very best,
Barbara G

Regroup and start again with the healthy sensible portioned eating. You can do this. Make a small and acheivable goal and move forward toward it. Easter was weeks ago so new energy for May.
Figure out why you eat too much or the wrong things. If it is from emotions or stress figure out what other way can you comfort yourself, relax and meet your needs.
Sending you good strong energy to rededicate yourself. We are not alone we are during this together.
All the best,
Barbara G

I laughed at the yes ma'am but it worked. I actually got up from the computer, did some chores and watered the garden and talked to 3 family members on the phone as I walked.
The bossy part was my note to myself to get up and move, not to anyone else. I have to be firm with myself sometimes or I roam from one thing to another on the computer and the time waltzes by.
Was good about eating fairly light today so off to sleep soon before the munchies return late at night.
