Hi all,
After a couple of these keeping me on track ish since mid jan i thought i would start another one, hoping some of you will join me
SW 244LB
CW 230LB
GW 209LB
My husband is in the military and has been deployed since late Jan, he should be back sometime in June my aim was to hit the 209lb mark before he got back but that's looking less realistic after some busy scary weeks with my 2 year old having a cancer scare but as a mini goal I want to be under 216lb by the start of June, then I will be 2st off since he deployed. I have a school reunion in July and my graduation in October so lots to work towards this year!
How are you all doing? What are your goals?

Woo hoo! I broke through to 142.7 and that is a good thing.
SW 153
CW 142.7
GW 140 that is short term goal and when I get there I will turn sideways and check out the belly profile to see if I will aim for 135. Arms and legs are fine, face is lean, belly is where the excess padding is stored.
Dear mother nature,
Please stop storing extra for child bearing survival. For Pete's sake I'm way past menopause at 74.
Let me lose this belly fat!
Keep active and eat clean and healthy nutrient dense food.
Enjoy the journey all,
Barbara G

Last year in July I was at 152 when I lost my mojo and started eating... I never completely stopped exercising but it defintely slowed way down. Now I'm back at it thanks to my fitbit and friendly challenges. I love it.

Hi & welcome Cowgirlnca
You get to keep eating but healthier and smaller portions so you don't yo yo back again. Find what you can do for life and just eat 500-700 less calories than you burn. Kick the junk food to the curb or compost pile if you are out in the country.
You did it recently so you just need to figure out how not to lose your mojo maybe.
We are doing this together so that is wonderful.

Barbara, Congratulations on breaking 142! That 4th of July goal will be no problem at all for you. And I love your request to Mother Nature. If only it were that easy.

CW- 152
GW- 145 by July 4th.
I had lost 54 pounds on weight watchers 9 years ago, I have maintained the loss. Currently I am a little over goal. I "know" what to do to loose weight. i "know" what to eat and to work out. I love sweets and snacks at night. I can be so good during the day, but my downfall is at night. I have been making better decisions recently. I am motivated to get these few extra pounds off!

its important to choose exercises that you would enjoy doing. Do you enjoy taking walks/jogs in the park? would a treadmill be fun for you? tennis? dancing? swimming? dvds? this is important so it doesn't feel like torture. if you enjoy it, you will be more likely to want to do it again. i love to dance, so Zumba is so fun for me. it doesnt feel like i am "working out".
think about what you can fit into your schedule too.
I hope this helps! 🙂

Hi LaLou
I like Angie's idea to do what you like to do for exercise. I love dancing so I do a lot of that. Was at the computer a lot today for work so just came back from a 50 minute walk in my hilly neighborhood. Lots of birdsongs to listen to as I walked. Zumba gold at a senior center or rec. center may be a good place to start as it is a good aerobic workout and you will be sweating away as you dance. I talk on the phone and walk sometimes. I put on music and dance. What do you enjoy LaLou? Do you belong to a gym? They have lots of classes and machines.. If you need a walking buddy find one nearby at church, work or among your friends. Working cleaning your home or gardening burn calories too. Put in those steps.
It is super important to log all your food so that you don't go on auto pilot and eat in front of the boob tube. Do you have a goal of how many steps you take each day? If you are averaging 4000 then add 500 more for a week and next week go for 5000. Most of us go for 10,000 daily when we build up to it.
Can you eat lots of salad and veggies and only lean protein? It make a huge difference and blood sugar gets lower, BP does too and cholesterol, LDL the lousy one does too. Amazing. Burn 1000 more calories than you eat and you will be losing about 2 lbs a week average over time.
Join us, you are not alone, while we get healthier together.
Good healthy wishes for you,
Barbara G

Hi Chan and welcome,
Log every morsel you eat and rack up those steps. You will get there. To lose 24 lbs by July 4 you will need to get radical and burn 2000 more calories than you eat daily! That is what it takes to lose 4 lbs each week as it is 6 weeks and 2 days 'til July 4th. What do you do to burn that much each day? Are you working out for lots of hours each day?
Wishing you luck in meeting your goals.

Hi Trish,
I know that Mother Nature probably smiled and shook her head at me. Hey, but I'm out walking and dancing.I agree that it is not that easy but we are doing it anyway, right? I bounced up again off 142.7 again to 143.7 but that happens a lot. I'm gonna get there by July 4 I think I may break through to 140. I sure ate light so far today with a salad and now some brussel sprouts and salmon. Yum. I love healthy food so I kick fried foods, and junk foods to the curb so to speak. POISON not food I think, so with that crazy attitude it makes it easier to avoid it.
How are you doing in moving toward your goal this time? You are a champ for beating your goal at Mother's Day so I just imagine you chugging along.
All the best,
Barbara G

Thank you Barbara!
I've always been bad at logging things, but I started yesterday (and WILL continue) after the realization that I'll never hit my GW by the wedding. I wasted a year and a half gaining and losing weight and peaked about 5 months ago. So I made a commitment that I'm going to haul booty and just do it! It will be a competition with myself to see just how much I can lose. 🙂
My goal is to burn 3500 calories daily, which is just over 20K steps a day at my CW. I've been able to do it 2 days in a row so far, so I know it's possible. Here's what I'm doing to hit that goal:
- I work on a college campus, so I park my car far away on the opposite end of a surface lot instead of the garage next to my building. = 800 steps each way
- I used MapMyRun to create a 1-mile route at home and 2-mile route at work to walk. Yesterday I walked the 2 miles during my lunch break while everyone went to a Mexican restaurant (my mind was happy about that; my stomach was not). I am walking my dog along the mile loop at home each day. = 2400 steps/mile (I'm on the shorter side so this makes sense, as opposed to the average 2000 steps/mile)
- There's a gym in my neighborhood, so I walk to the gym and work out. We have dance classes on Wednesday and Thursday nights for an hour, so I'll have to find something fun the other days of the week. = 2400 steps walking to and from the gym; 6000 steps per class
- I take the scenic route to the bathroom at work. 600 steps each trip
- I have a desk job, so every couple hours I'll get up and walk around for a few minutes (if possible). = 500 steps per break. I'll also get up and visit someone's office to talk to them instead of sending an IM.
- I have a treadmill at home that has historically gotten little use. I will actually start using it! Particularly while binge-watching Netflix.
- On grocery runs, I'll park my car at the very back of the lot instead of at the front. Bonus steps if I need to use a cart, because it means I have to return it!
The highest amount of steps I've done in a day is 35K, but I definitely have no desire to do that every day! As long as I hit my 20K each day and eat 1500 calories, I'll get that 2000 calorie deficit. Yesterday I burned 3434 calories and consumed about 800. (I would have LOVED to have more, but by the time I got back from my fitness class, it was 9 PM and I'm trying not to eat close to bedtime). I'm also trying to convince my pizza/burrito/carb-loving fiance to NOT keep unhealthy food in the house (the operative word being "trying"). 🙂
Thank you for the encouragement! Down 1.5 lbs from yesterday...so far, so good!

I got the FitBit for my birthday. I row and lift and cycle. I eat healthy but I eat too much of the healthy! My goal is to track my meals more (which I've found with fitbit's food log is so much more user-friendly and quicker than myfitnesspal which I had been using for about 3 years!) and therefore figure out how to have smaller portions and make that a habit.

Hello all! I am new here and I am just getting a fitbit for mother's day from my husband. At first I didn't know if I should be thankful or offended.
Anyway, I occasionally go to the gym and walk, but my problem is staying consistent and curbing my RICE and Sugar cravings.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm excited about joining the fitbit community. I think it will definitely help me reach my goal.
