My husband is in the military and has been deployed since late Jan, he should be back sometime in June my aim was to hit the 209lb mark before he got back but that's looking less realistic after some busy scary weeks with my 2 year old having a cancer scare but as a mini goal I want to be under 216lb by the start of June, then I will be 2st off since he deployed. I have a school reunion in July and my graduation in October so lots to work towards this year!
How are you all doing? What are your goals?

If portions is an issue they make a plastic device you put on your dinner plate with portion holes to help manage that part of eating the proper amounts.

Not sure losing more than 2 lbs per week is such a healthy idea.

Hi Meges,
I think that unless you are in a supervised workout program with high density nutrition and you have a lot of weight to lose, your diet should be healthy and sustainable for life with a little larger portions when you reach goal. To lose 2 lbs a week we need to burn 1000 more calories than we eat. That takes a lot of biking, running, dancing, swimming or walking on a daily basis. Some of us have to do more exercise and eat fewer calories due to genetics but all of us need to eat healthy, lots of non starchy veggies, some whole fruit, some whole grains and beans and lean protein. Salads and veggies can be filling with salmon or a small chicken breast we can feel full if we wait 20 minutes after our plate is empty to really get the full signal.
Slow and steady with nutritious and delicious food with walking and dancing the fat off.
We can do this.

Hi ask1n
I love that I can have large portions of veggies and that leaves me full and satisfied.
I don't eat dessert hardly ever and no french fries or white rice.
That way I can lose weight and feel full after 20 minutes.
If not I drink water.

You have Got it down! Excellent plan to burn it. Eat only healthy nutritious food and mind your portion sizes and you will succeed. When the voice inside makes excuses and whines take her by the hand and walk. Thoughts lie and make lame excuses that we are too smart to listen to now. Congrats on the weight loss already.
Sending you and our sister challengers the most supportive wishes. Even on a holiday weekend we can do it!

Thank you! You are so right - no more excuses! Excuses are for people who don't want it badly enough.
Can't give a weight update because I'm visiting family, but I'm looking FORWARD to weighing in [for once] when I get home. I'm just proud of myself for sticking to eating healthy foods and sticking to 20K steps/day (for 3 and 4 days, respectively).
Hope everyone has a healthy holiday weekend! 🙂

You can do it! It sucks to see the scale go the wrong way, but our weight even when we are losing can fluctuate all over the place. When I go up, or get stuck like this week, I look back at my 'trend' line over the last month and try to celebrate the journey I've made so far. I also watch food documentaries on Netflix (Knives over Forks, Hungry for Change, Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, TED talks about nutrition, boy does that help me clean up my diet in a hurry and remind me why I'm doing this!).

I had to attend a cheerleading banquet with my kids tonight. Terrible food for us vegetarians. Veggie burgers (no buns), a spring mix salad with a few slices of tomato, baked potatoes and garlic bread (and desserts). I've been eating a lot more veggies lately and going easy on carbs. I haven't had a potato in ages and after eating a big helping of lettuce, a veggie 'beef' patty and a potato with sour cream and cheese I was positively stuffed. I went for a walk while my kids danced but had to come in because of the swarms mosquitos. If it's not -40C and snowing here it's 30C and 'raining' mosquitos. I'm pretty psyched because I bought a juicer today, and we went to Costco and came out with only fruits and veg, I resisted every other temptation. It's been a slow weight loss week, but I'm confident that next week will be better. Going to mess around with my exercise program, I think my body is starting to adapt.

What about swapping brown rice for white? It's more filling, better for you and there are so many cool varieties. We bought brown sushi rice last month, it made awesome sushi! Sugar is so addictive for me, I'm trying to get off it all together, not even in my coffee and tea. I find that now, after 6 weeks of really cutting back on it, I don't miss it and I'm satisfied with an apple. Sugar is hidden in absolutely everything, from pasta sauce to crackers. There are some plans out there, I think there is one by Tosca Reno, for cutting out the sugar in your diet. She has some cookbooks out and a website full of recipes. Tosca Reno Sugar Strike

Any exercise that you actually enjoy doing, is the best exercise. If you hate it, you won't do it. I won't swim even though it's an awesome full body workout, because I hate chlorine and don't like being wet. I also hate all cycling/spinning because it bruises my sit-bones. You have to find something that is fun for you. Think outside the box too...indoor/outdoor rock climbing, crossfit, dance classes, martial arts classes, ultimate frisbee, join a softball team, surfing, hiking. There is more to an active life than "the gym". I currently walk and jog, inside and outside. I'm doing a 5K training program (Zombies, Run 5K Training App Week 4!) 3x a week, and I do the treadmill or elliptical all the other days of the week. I also walk to work when I don't have anywhere I have to be right afterwards. I didn't like jogging to start but the more I do it, the more I'm liking it because I can see I'm making progress. I take a yoga class once a week, but I want to increase that when I can afford it. I'm working towards getting fit enough and flexible enough to take adult gymnastics in the fall, or adult ballet, and I want to run a 5k. I think it's important to make fitness goals as well as weight goals to keep you pushing ahead. It reminds me that I'm not exercising only to lose weight, I'm exercise to get strong and more fit. Good luck, let us know what you decide to take up.

Hi, I run a niche magazine and social media/marketing consultancy, also at my desk all day, so I know how you feel! Just started with the FitBit 2 weeks ago. I'm so excited about this change! Interested in creating a challenge together? Best, Marcia

Thanks 😃 Lol, that cat is mostly lovely...when she isn't eating holes in my scarves, noshing on my shoelaces, or chewing off the ribbing from any sweater made of acrylic. Today she discovered how to throw herself against my bedroom door until it opened to let her in.

Hi,
Got my fitbit a couple days ago 23/09/15. I have one friend at the moment ( my daughter ) I would like to move more and lose weight for a holiday abroad for my 50th In September. I work in a office so not much movement. I have set my target to 5,000 steps to start and instead of working through my half hr lunch I am going to walk round the car park.
I am not sure what

SW= starting weight
CW = current weight
GW = goal weight
So I am getting very frustrated. After gaining a lot of weight, after Christmas I was up to 185. I monitored my eating and dropped about 10 lbs in a little over a month. Then I plateaued... then in April I got a personal trainer... and while I know I am now getting WAY stronger and I am working my butt off... nothing is happening. In fact... the scale is going UP. I am back up to 180. I am eating okay... not amazingly, but certainly not poorly. I drink lots of water and cut out fast food... salt...most sweets...
My original goal was to be in the 140s by my trip coming up mid-July. Then I thought I would be thrilled to be in the 150s... Now I would just like to see the 160s.
I do not understand what I am doing so wrong. I KNOW muscle weighs more than fat... but this is really getting frustrating. I am trying to be patient, think long term and just chip away at it... but it is getting really hard. I weighed less when I was eating crap and sitting on my butt all day.
With summer here - or at least around the corner - it is even more frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions?
