5:2 diet - looking for a group to join me

I live in the UK and the 5:2 diet is getting a lot of good rep and I was wondering - has anyone tried it or are thinking of doing so?

I'm starting this diet and would love to have a couple of fitbitters join me to chat and support each other so if you're interested in trying it out, it would be great.

Happy holidays everone and get them steps in!

Mccmarc, the best is to look at the link I gave above. It explains it so much better than I can. In a nutshell, though, you are eating normally on 5 days a week and on two days you stay under 500 cal for women and 600 cal for men. These two day should not be consecutive days, so i.e. Monday and Thursday.
On no fast days you should though stay within your TDE (see above link) albeit you can eat whatever you like.
Some people do 4:3, which is the same but with three days fasting. Often this is combined with 16:8, which means you consume all your daily food within 8 hours and the other 16 you eat nothing. This is easier than it sounds, for example you have your dinner at 6 pm and your breakfast not before 10am the next morning.

Re the 500cal/ 600 cal: some people eat three tinstsy meals over the day. I can't do that as if I eat something small my tummy seems to wake up and wants more. I drink tons of water/ tea during the day and then have a dinner of around 500 cal in the evening.

What is beautiful about this way of life is that one does not feel deprived. You can have your cake AND eat it, just not on your fast days!

Check out the above links, they are really helpful and they are not adds! No need to buy any supplements and or spend money on i.e. Weight watchers.

It is all free and very easily doable. Inhave lost 6 kg in 7 weeks, and that is not even much. In my case it goes slower as I was not too over-weight in the first place.

The side effects of "fasting" are numerous as the body has time to repair itself when it does not have to deal with digesting food all the time.

Hope this helps a bit?
Stef.

Cyndia, your link is great- thanks. I do most of the things suggested in your link but in combination with 5:2 as this results in an even greater weightloss. In the long run it will be 6:1 for me once I reached my goal ( about 1 more kg to go)

That was really helpful info thank you. I was thinking of
Juicing for the fast days although the hard bit is knowing
How many calories I am cumsuming.. So maybe not a good idea??
Anybody got any views?

juicing can be tricky but if you know the calories of the fruit you are adding you can probably measure the other contents too. i use to do a smoothy with 2 fruits and add celery and natural yogurt. celery is meant to have no calories. fruit is heavy on calories so for my fast day i am opting for a protein like eggs, bean soups with veggies. i use to get too hungry much quicker on juices but let me know how you get on. i am trying to loose 11 pounds. i have just cooked a pot of kidney beans soup with veg and frozen it for fast days. that way i don't hv to prepare something when i am starved.

Kitsmoss, I do not do juicing on fast days as juices contain quite a lot of calories. I prefer one meal at dinner. You could though do a bit of juicing on non-fast days?

Hi,

I have just seen the interview with Michael Mosley. My husband and I decided to try it out and bought the books. We also bought the Fitbit Flex. It's only been a week and I feel like I have lots more energy. I would love to join in the discussions as I need to be motivated or I tend to lose interest. I have found the first 4 fast days REALLY hard especially around mid afternoon and went over the calorie count for the first 2 fast days but I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

Cheers

Hi all!

I got a fitbit today for mother's day 🙂 Was wanting to join up with some people for motivation & community, I started the 5 2 diet 2 weeks ago, 1st week was easy, unfortunately last week only had 1 fast day due to hectic schedule (no excuse!) fast day is tomorrow 🙂

Kitsmoss:

I was thinking similarly to you and wanting to do all liquids for the first 2 weeks of the years (soup, juicing, smoothies) But the first day I tried to fast, I had soup and a juice, and I was sooo hungryy all day. I realized looking back on it, in the past liquids have never really left me feeling satiated, so what a silly idea that was. It may work for you, but I feel like for many people, they will be much hungrier if only juicing than if eating eggs, chicken and vegetables, avocados, you know more substantial foods. 🙂
