Hello all,
Been a member here since November 2013 and I wanted to share my story and make some new friends along the way. I'm two months post gastric bypass surgery and I've dropped from 387lbs to 334lbs as of this morning. My surgeon recommended Fitbit as a way to track my progress over the next year as I approach my target weight. I picked up a Fitbit Force a little more than a month ago and my Aria scale was delivered yesterday, so I think that I'm properly equipped for the upcoming joirney. I'm looking forward to 2014 and continuing to work towards reaching my target weight along with improving my overall health. Hope that everyone has a safe and Happy New Year!

Congratulations on the loss and I sent a friend request. I am a little confused by the thread title. 387 to 334 is 53 lbs so is 70 lbs in 80 days what you want to accomplish or were you heavier than 387?
I know the journey as I was 376 on Sep 19, 2013 and as of yesterday morning I was 316 for 60 lbs lost in 103 days.

I was at 427lbs when I started the surgical weight loss program in June 2012 and I got down to around 380lbs at the completion of the 6 month physician supervised diet & exercise portion of the program. Put about 25lbs back on between December 2012 and October 2013. Weighed in at 404lbs at my pre-op appointment on October 8, 2013 and was down to 387lbs on October 23, 2013 on the morning that I had surgery. Pretty sure my next target weight is around 300-305lbs when I go for my next follow up in February 2014.

Congrats on your loss. I had gastric bypass in 2004 weighing 411lbs I dropped 197lbs in the first year (not kidding) altogether I lost 237. I gained back about 80 over the last 10 years which prompted me to start getting back in gear. Good luck on your journey and if you need any support feel free to drop me a line anytime.

I applaud your commitment to get to a healthier you - and I don't want to rain too much on your parade - but that's a LOT of weight in a very short period of time.
First, I am not a doctor so I am only speaking from personal experience and what I have read, etc. However, generally a loss 1-2 pounds per month is good rate for long-term, stable, sustainable weight loss. 1-2 pounds per week is sometimes achieved through a careful and focused effort of increased activity and carefully measured, balanced nutritional intake with increased water consumption. Dropping nearly a pound a day after abdominal surgery could put a great deal of stress on your system. Please coordinate your changes in lifestyle with your surgeon and family physician to ensure that you are working at a healthy pace that your body can accept and sustain.
The prize for all of us is to achieve and maintain a level of fitness that keeps us active, feeling strong, and mentally sharp, and allows us to enjoy a vibrant and long life with our friends and family. I know that sudden, clear and visible progress on a long-sought goal can be exciting and even intoxicating, but lifestyle changes are more of a challenging hike to the distant vista than a sprint to the checkered flag at the end of the straight-away. Give your body the time it needs to rebuild itself into the machine it was meant to be – and take pride in the daily progress and improvements in strength, stamina, flexibility, appearance that you achieve – and you will reap the benefits for many years to come. Live long and be well, my friend.

Tom,
Agreed. My body is definately still reeling from all of the changes going on right now. My surgeon has laid out a plan for 2014 with my target weights with the eventual goal being getting down to 205lbs by November 2014. My biggest problem right now is not being able to eat enough protein, as the doc wants me in the 85-95g range daily. I'm able to get to the 65-75g range fairly easily, but anything above that is next to impossible for me right now. I'm hoping that my new stomach will start cooperating with me a little more so I'm able to eat without feeling sick/having pain during or immediately after the meal.

I'm glad to hear that you are working closely with your doctor and have a solid plan to manage your work toward your goal weight. This may be obvious but, if you are not already doing so, try becoming a "grazer" - eating small amounts of food regularly throughout the day. Your procedure has greatly limited your capacity for food at a single sitting. It sounds like those unpleasant sensations are your stomach trying to tell you that you have reached your limit for the moment. The two slimmest, most energetic, 40-something ladies I know seem to be eating a little something whenever I see them. They eat 5-7 times a day but not after hours (i.e. after 8:00 p.m.). That, combined with regular but not intense exercise at the gym, has kept them both looking basically the same for at least the past 10 years. So, I suggest that you eat a small quantity of high protein, lower calorie/fat foods every 2-3 hours; spreading the target amount of protein over about 12-14 hours.

Here are a few high protein, lower fat suggestions that I found:
1 Egg Whites - one cup has 26 grams of protein
2 Black Beans - 1/2 cup (cooked) has 7.6 grams of protein and only 0.5 grams of fat
3 Wild Caught Salmon - 3 oz has 16.9 grams 5.4 grams of fat
4 low fat Cottage Cheese - 1/2 cup has 16 grams of protein and just 1 gram of fat
5 Soybeans or Edamame has - 1/2 cup has 11.1 grams of protein and 5.8 grams of fat
6 Whitemeat Chicken - 4 oz has 35.1 grams of protein and 5.1 grams of fat
Also, my sons drink Whey Protein shakes (using water or skim milk), 27 grams per serving, which may be a lot of volume but you could try sipping it slowly over 30 minutes or so.

Congratulations on your weight loss and for the bravery of taking a drastic step towards improving your health and your life. I am on my 2nd post op week and just like you, I am hopping the fitbit will help me keep track of my fluid intake and exercise. Did you figure out how to track the protein intake as well? Right now, to be honest, I'm overwhelm by the amount of information, I'm still in pain and wwondering if I did the right thing. Anyways, please let me know about tracking the protein. Thank you

I track my protein intake by logging the foods that I'm eating and protein shakes that I'm drinking. Once in a while I have to create a new food in order to enter it, but most of the time it is already in there if you use the right search terms. Hang in there...the first couple of weeks weren't a lot of fun as I recall but things will get better.

Congratulations on your loss. I am in the 5th month of pre-op. I dread going to the nutritionist on Wednesday as I haven't lost what she expects me to. I fear that "they" won't let me have the surgery in April. I have my psych eval scheduled for Wed a.m. with follow up Wed. afternoon. I am looking for someone to talk with....if you're available...
