Hi there,
I bought myself the fitbit about a month ago and have been using it to get a baseline. I think I could use some friends on here to motivate me. Anyone interested? I work on my feet about 60 hours per week, but alas, standing is not really exercise, and sometimes after a grueling day on my feet, I'll notice that I've only clocked about 5,000 steps. So, I'm having a hard time.
What's your story? How do you use this wristband to help you?
Thanks

Sent you a friend request 🙂
I have around 100lbs to lose myself. My goal is set at 7,000 per day but im in nursing so I work 8 hour shifts 4-5 days per week where I am on my feet for all but my dinner break. On those days, I'm usually walking 10,000 steps just at work 🙂 On other days, I tend to rely on walking in my living room- sometimes to a Leslie Sansone Walk at Home DVD or just in front of the tv to a show that I like.
I have the zip and so far I am loving it! I just need to get my eating under control, which is hard because Im dealing with an eating disorder. The walking itself gives me energy anyway, and I love having a goal to hit and a way to track it.
Hope we can motivate each other to hit our goals 🙂

I too have had a lot of weight to lose. i have accomplished all but 15 lbs. It takes your purchase of this (I wish i had learned this a year or so ago) item and now that you have your fitbit, you are a step in the rught direction. I find it frustrating because it is cold outside. While i do not and did not have the same schule as did you, I had strokes and have put on weight like you wouldn't believe. I finally managed to get about 5000 steps per day. I worked and worked and finally began tp do 9000 and somtimes i did 10,000 steps per day. Than it turned to winter, i had another stroke and now i have to start over. I suppose It's for the best, it could have been a lot worse.
I thinke we havew one thing in common...5000 steps. I suppose you need to park on the next block. Walk on your lunch break. Eat right. walk on your morning and afternoon breaks. Your day off, sleep in, have a snack and walk, walk, walk. When you come back home, fix yourself some oatmeal, or eggs or ??? Now you can start your day. I think you will find it can work for you. Have a little patience! If you would like, I will take you as a friend.
Oh yes, the wristband will tell you where you are, if you are wondering whrer you are, just press the band twice and it will show you how far oyu arer. Try to get a little farther and a little gfarther than that and so on. By starting the day out walking early in the am you have a better shot at getting more steps in.

@kgb_in_cali: only 5,000 steps logged in a day???? That's great ---- I've been using my Flex since November and, for various reasons, at the moment, I rarely get more than 2-3,000 steps in a day. I feel pretty good about this and am looking forward to increasing my steppin' as I get more active during the day. Please don't be so hard on yourself --- there are plenty of opportunities to increase your steps; you just have to keep at it and look for those opportunities during your free time as well as while you're at work. Perhaps, increasing your walk from car to workplace (if you're driving) or if you're going by public transport, try getting off a stop or two earlier than your destination and walking --- if you're at the subway, walk the distance to the end of the station and get on the end car; when you reach your destination, walk to the end of the station again. Stairs instead of elevator is another option to try. Do you have a dog or a friend to walk with??? When you're on the phone, are you sitting or standing ---- maybe you can step in place??? Just some friendly suggestions ................. Best of luck and keep on steppin'. Don't give up on yourself. Golda T.

Hi!
I am right here with you. I realised in September that if the hubby and I wanted to try to have a baby next year, that I really needed to lose weight and get in better shape. Looking at the scale made me realise just how much. I needed to lose around 130lbs just to get to a semi-healthy weight, and possibly a bit more once I get there (I'll have to see what I feel like as I've never been that small before!). I've worked hard the last few months and have lost 41lbs, but still have a lot more to go. I'm finding the fitbit really motivational and I like the challenge that it gives me.
It is really hard to hit 10,000 steps a day, but I've found that if I do 100 steps before I go to the bathroom just by walking in place, or when I'm waiting for the kettle to boil, or when cooking, I can get a lot more steps in. If I'm just walking in place on the phone, or doing other little tasks, then I'm moving and this helps a lot. I'd also recommend the youtube walking videos (just search "walking" and you'll see them) as you can do them indoors if the weather is bad, take breaks when you need to, and do them when you have a bit of extra time without having to go anywhere.
In terms of other excerise, I use cans of soup to do basic arm workouts (although I'm getting proper weights for Valentine's Day, yay!), swim, and do water aerobics (great workout and since you're in water, there is less stress on your joints so it's great if you find jumping around hard). I also do lots of low impact aerobics from fitnessblender on youtube, and pilates (I have a neck issue so I have to stick to low impact activities). Search for those vidoes as they are great, free, and you can do them at home at your own pace. Try some of those, and introduce different activities slowly. Once you find what stuff you enjoy doing, then focus on that and ramp up the intensity as you get stronger.
Feel free to add me... It's great that you are taking this step and be proud of yourself for making the effort! 🙂

i'm looking for all the support i can get too, i'm looking to loose at least 100lbs, i only average about 2000 steps a day, i have 2 jobs that require me to be chanined to a desk. I'm tring to get moving more, but it's hard to find the time. But i have done the weight loss thing once before and lost 60lbs, and a big part of it was being part of an online forum where i could voice triumps and concerns and get feedback and support.
lets do this!

I have been stuck in neutral for years it seems with my weight loss too. I am always looking for motivation. If anyone here wants, feel free to add me and we can all keep each other motivated.
As for "only" logging 5,000 steps, it is not just about how many steps you are doing, it is also about the diet. 5,000 steps burns about 700 calories. Watch the diet along with the steps. I find that logging my food intake really makes me look at what I am eating. And just because something seems healthy, it may not always be. I only ate 1,300 calories the other day, but my sodium intake was nearly 4,000mg! You are not supposed to have over 2,300 and optimal is around 1,500. And don't forget to drink, drink, drink that water. I am drinking about half my body weight in oz each day.
Good luck! And if you are looking for motivation, add me!
