Afew things I feel help towards weight loss goals.

I thought I would put down some of the things i do to help me reach my goals.

Unlearning bad habbits and replacing them with healthier options, this one was really hard for me at first, but it was a game changer, the way i see it is that weight loss is a routine, the more you do it, the easier it gets and the small changes really matter.

Plan your exercise around your life, not your life around your exercise.  Oh, and listening to audio books while on a tredmill or exercise bike makes it awhole lot more interesting! I once actually wanted to stay  on the bike for another hour just to hear the end of a book!

If you find that you have put on weight or lost none at all DO NOT STRESS OUT! Dont get depressed or lose your motivation! what you need to do is use it, positively reinforce yourself mentally, make it a challenge to do better next week!

Sitting at home watching TV? take a walk, its much more interesting, I love to walk my dogs, maybe you can sell your servies in your spare time and walk other peoples dogs? i did this.

If you are exhausted, don't try to exercise, you may do yourself more harm than good. and you wont lose any weight because your bodies metabolic rate would be at rock bottom to save on energy.

Take up meditation, you may scoff at the idea, but Mental health has a physical effect on the body and your metabolism, meditation i found really helped me.

Diet protein shakes! they are a great way to aid in your goals! and a great snack! just make sure you drink your daily water too!

If you are on a cal controled diet make sure you have two days of the week where you eat normally(dont go on over the top tho), this will reset your body and stop you from going into starvation mode as often, its also some thing to look forward too.

eating too little is as bad as eating too much!

never! NEVER miss your breakfast! if you miss it, your body wont burn as much during the day. (protein shakes for the win)

your friends can be your worst enemy, don't let them lure you away from your diet goals, tell them no! you can ruin a weeks work within afew hours of being with your friends! (it prolly came across abit harsh, but i think you understand what i mean)

having an exercise friend really helps, its true what they say, "suffering loves company" which is why i always hike with my wolf hybrid freya (see avatar) She always has that waggly tail and big smile, and when i slow down she is always puts me back on track and pulls me forward into a large tree or spikey bush in pursuit of a squirrel.

Get up early in the morning, don't lay in bed and over sleep. the longer you are up, the more cals you use, but make sure to take naps when you need them because over doing it wont help you reach your goals.

Carrots! i find these the best snack food since greggs cheese cakes! i get hungry I eat a raw carrot or a protein shake and im good to go again.

Thats all i can think of for now! but i'd love to read any and all tips you may have

Thanks for sharing these tips, I'll keep them in mind for my workouts and daily activities.

Can I ask how much weight you loss, and how long it took you to reach your goal weight?

Best Answer

This time last year i was 430 lbs, today im around 280 lbs so i lost around 150lbs. i was a 60" waist now im a 46" waist

but my weight loss diet is harsh and took and is taking alot of Sacrifice.

I have an ultra low fat intake, and minimum cal intake while expending as much energy as im able.

I have diet protien in the morning with vitamin sups, i drink alot of water, and i only eat Brown rice with veg or chicken/turkey breast meat. this is normaly 600 to 800 cal

2 days of the week i eat normally, that way my body  never feels the need to hang onto every single cal. i learned this the hard way, through many weeks of not losing any weight at all due to my body being in starvation panic mode, but i never go over 1300 cal.

I eat at the same time of the day regardless of what im doing, I shift my exercise routine up so my body never gets used to the routine and is forced into expending as much energy as it can. I'm unemployed so I have all the time in the world to do this at the moment.

I'm not gonna lie I have had bad days where I couldnt help myself and stuffed my face with whatever i could find, but I just told myself i will work harder, I will do better next week.

My goal is to lose another 160 lbs.

Way to go! You have really committed to a healthier you; I admire your positive attitude and candor! I struggle with the evening urge to snack. I know it is mostly mental, but it is the hardest part of the day for me. So, I am going to the gym two-three evenings a week and have joined a rec club group for gym games one night a week. When I get home I feel better, and have had less time to think about snacking!

I have a difficult time drinking 64 oz. of water.  40 oz. is a very good day for me. I find that on those days is when weight loss seems to show up more significantly.  For the next 7 days, I am going to shoot for 64 oz. per day to see what effect that has.  I'll let you know.

Late night snacking is a problem for me too.  Two people gave me nice boxes of chocolate for Christmas, even though I actually detest chocolate - yeah, right. -:).  In the last week or so, I've had a couple of chocolate crashes during the night.  But I climbed back on the horse the next morning.  I find that using the Fitbit makes it easier to stay on the road to better health.

I found that if I take a nap (sleep) when i'm hungry I'm no longer hungry when I wake. I assume this is due to the release of serotonin

We use this meal replacement protein shake (it is a MEAL replacement not just an empty shake) called Raw Meal.  Brand is Garden of Life.  It is the 'Beyond Organic Meal Replacement Formula".  NEVER hungry after drinking this with a little unsweetened almond milk and water (1/2 and 1/2).  It really does fill me up and not with fiber which bloats me.  It is loaded with good vitamins and nutrition and no, I am not selling it.  My huband who is a fitness and health guru bought this for me because I want to lose 30 pounds in a healthy way.  I do this twice a day then eat a healthy and filling dinner.  Night time is rough for me because I am a recoering TV snacker but I am doing pretty well with this.  My clothes are fitting better and I am sleeping really well.  I guess dumping sugar and those empty calories really helped.  Just a sugggestion as I feel it does the trick for me! I do not use the two scoops they recommend only one which is more than enough btw.

I'm a combination of these tips, I use a meal replacement shake, I really like to use it for breakfast.  I never ate breakfast much, and it was always a strugle for me...breakfast foods are loaded with carbs...so it just makes it a no brainer for me. I do lunch as a shake most days too.  Dinner is my normal meal...this life style is just easier for me and my husband (he isn't trying to lose weight).  I like the tip of two normal days...I struggle with the weekends, hanging with friends and eating out....so that would make my life alot easier...I'm going to give it a try.

I also have a struggle with night time snacking, my husband likes to have dessert every night...usually as late as possible....So most times I just make sure I have steps & calories left to cover it.

I am going to incorporate some more of your tips into my daily routine and see what happens, thanks for sharing!  Your accomplishment so far is inspirring and I look forward to more tips and post as you continue on your journey!!

I have given myself permission to take 6-8 months to drop 30 pounds or even a year if needed.  I think if I lose 3-5 pounds a week I would be more than thrilled so doing this in a healthy way.  I never liked breakfast either but I am getting used to it.  I normally do a white egg scramble with herbs or mushrooms and then have a meal replacement shake.  That is exactly 270 calories and fills me up.  If I a doing heavy exercise (2+ hours of intense tennis) I have a meal replacement bar which I eat half way through or a portion of that at 250 calories.  I have a 400 calorie dinner and because I was a tv snacker have another meal replacement shake around 9Pm with 7-8 pecans which obviously are high in fat but DOES the trick in filling me up.  I am sleeping much better without the heavy sugar carbs.  I do need to walk every day and trying to fit that into my schedule.  In the last 5 days I have dropped 3 pounds which I am very happy about........with alot of support we can reach our goals.  At 66 years old, not easy but definitely doable.  Good luck everyone.

Hi!

Try herbal teas to get in your water. There are tons of flavors; I enjoy Celestial Seasonings zingers. I just tried some Lipton flavored green teas that tasted very pleasant and didnt scream for sugar. Also, if u can swing into an Arab or Pakistani store, they often have orange blossom essence and rose essence. Both are very nice; add one drop to glass of water for interesting flavor without sugar. Remeber coffee and black tea dont count as water due to their nonhydrating ability. Five cups of coffee is not five cups of water for your body to use!!!

Best wishes!!

Love your motivational tips about the dog and the friends.  Also what diet protein shakes do you use?  I am usually eating way too much because I am not supposed to eat or drink during the shift in our clinic.  Infection control dictates we are not allowed to even drink water so at the end of my morning shift 1:30pm I am so hungry and thirsty that I overeat.  Then again at 8pm when I get home or later if it's really busy.

Suggestions other than starting an IV on myself?
