I brought this post over from the old forums so we could all stay in touch and keep helping each other stay motivated.
I have been in a kind of funk lately but am climbing back up slowly but surely. I bought a used treadmill so I have no more excuses for not getting my steps in. Today was a snow day here and I didn't go in to work. Instead I cleaned my car off, shoveled the driveway, went for a short walk with my hubby, came back and jumped on the treadmill for an hour, then after dinner I got back on the treadmill while I watched Biggest Loser. I feel better getting in the extra activity. I am seeing the difference in little ways-my clothes are baggier, I can walk up my hill without feeling like I'm dying (lol), my stomach isn't as quite as big as it was two months ago. I have to stop being so hard on myself and congratulate myself on the little changes I am making. I have to remember that those little changes will add up to big changes down the road. I have lost 16 pounds as of last Thursday. I have upped my step count goal to 11,000 a day and sometimes its a struggle but I am trying 🙂
How is everyone else doing? How do you stay motivated? Does the Holidays and winter months effect you and how do you handle it?

Hi! I just got my fitbit for Christmas and I am really excited. I am 46 and need to lose 60 lbs. I was reading through this thread and thought this would be a place that would help me stay motivated. I have 2 girls 14 and 12. My hubby loves cycling and is a really fit guy. Both my daughters play basketball. I go to the gym at least 3 times a week, but I "out eat" my burn. I am an extreme emotional eater. I love gadgets and am hoping that having this new fitbit gadget will keep me motivated to log my food and push me even farther in my fitness.

Today is my birthday and my hubby and I went for a "little" walk-just over 12 miles and just over 30,000 steps! I am sore but happy because I did it! Two years ago I could barely go for a 6 mile walk with him. Afterwards we went out to dinner, I passed on dessert 🙂 and when we got home I had a package waiting-the Aria scale I ordered should up early and on my birthday to boot!! It was fairly easy to set up and I am hoping it will help keep me in line. I am out of the funk I was in. To be honest I think I was depressed over the holidays this year. I am feeling much better now and plan on continuing this journey of getting control back of my life. Today I was able to wear my favorite pair of jeans that I have not worn in about 2 1/2 yrs or so.
This was one of the best birthdays I have had in a very long time!!

Happy Birthday, Heidi! And congratulations on your "little" walk!
The weather here has turned nasty. Forecast says windchills in the -40F range. I'm definitely going to need to find some indoor activities for the next couple of days.

I completed my first ever 5k yesterday in 50 minutes 28 seconds =16.17 mile. That for me is my personal best. It was a great way to start the new year and the new me. I am now at 186 pounds, 24 pounds lost and 56 pounds more to go. I am feeling confident that I can do this, one day at a time. Hope everyone else has a had a good holiday.

Hi Heidi! I'm new to the fitbit community. I ordered the fitbit about a month ago. Wore it for a while, looked at my stats, but never really tried... My revolution for 2014 is to get healthy. I may never be skinny, but I know I can make myself feel better, more energy, less aches and pains... I'm starting off fairly aggressive (today). I have probably 100 lbs to lose, but I'm focusing on 25 to start. I'm planning to alternate weight / toning with cardio through out the week and for the 1st month alternate day fasting. I'm the mother of two, early 20 year old and a teenager. My husband and I have been married for over 20 years and all of them are very fit, lean and toned. I'm really wanting to join them. Looking forward to sharing my progress and hearing about everyones journey. Here's to all of us!

Hi all.
I hope everyone's back in the swing of things after the holidays. The windchill is -38F here today and it's hard to stay positive when you step outside and can hardly breathe. So I decided I needed a little motivation from all of you!
I have lost 22 lbs since October and have reached my first "big goal" - I'm under 200 lbs for the first time in at least 7 years. It's 23 lbs to my next "big goal" and I'm feeling like I can do it. I spent a day this weekend trying on every article of clothing in my closet - 4 bags of clothes that no longer fit are going to Goodwill later today! And I discovered more than a few items that had been tucked away for years because they didn't fit. I kind of feel like I have a "new" wardrobe - without the expensive price tag.
