Apartment-Friendly Cardio

Hi, I have the ChargeHR and am also on a low-calorie diet per my goals. It has been suggested to me to start doing cardio as well. It's in the 30's out here so I won't be going outside to do it, and I live in an apartment and wouldn't like for my neighbor to hate me. Does anyone have any suggestions on apartment-friendly cardio to do?

I picked up one of these at Wal-Mart for $45. It's the Gold's Gym mini-stepper, and it's as sturdy as it looks. It's quiet and low-impact, and with a couple of 5-pound weights to carry you'll get a workout, I promise. 😄

You may want to start with a couple of 1-pint water bottles to carry. (I find having some weight in my hands helps with balance.) Then if that seems light, pick up a couple of light barbells, maybe 2.5 lbs. I carry 5-pounders but I think I'm quite a bit bigger than you. 🙂

I will try that! And I will look into getting one of those, I never knew that small ones existed like that. That'd be perfect for my place! Also I live on the top floor so I definitely can't be carrying in any treadmills or heavy excercise equipment! But that looks perfect!

Assuming you live in a safe building, try going up and down the stairs for a while. (I do this at work all the time).

You will torch through the 'flights' badges, plus you can enter the time as a discreet exercise. Costs zero 🙂  Rob

I second this if this option is available to you.  When I used to live places with icy winters, I would often go up the flights in my 14 story building and take the elevator back down to preserve my knees.  A good day would have me doing 75ish flights.

It does wonders for your stamina, oxygen levels, and of course for burning calories 🙂

I get my heart rate up indoors by hoola hooping! Not with a weighted one, they do some serious damage, just a normal very light hoop, in an adult size though. No complaints from the neighbours yet, and the best thing: it counts as steps!

Try checking some cardio workout programs for Modifier Editions.

For jumping jacks for example, you can do step outs instead. Left leg out and in, right leg out and in jacks.
