Hello,
My fitbit HR massively overestimates kcals burned throughout the day, leading to totally inaccurate allowance for kcal that can be consumed. According to a quick google search, a vast majority of fitbit users who look at the kcal counts in detail seem to notice the exact same problem and the problem hast been persisting for several years (see numerous posts in a wide variety of forums since at least 2016). numerous studies have also confirmed that fitbit (as well as other trackers) overestimate kcal burned by up to 40%! This basically renders the entire meal tracking function totally useless, and the calories burned statistic is also pretty meaningless.
Nevertheless, in all these years, fitbits does not seem to have ever changed their faulty formula. How is this possible? After all, the consequences of this error may not be trivial at all, if people take the kcal count shown on their fitbit at face value and think they can safely consume the number of kcal shown on their fitbit. It seems ironic that a fitness tracker should actively encourage unhealthy behaviour.
And the argument that it is your own fault if you trust anything that your fitness tracker says directly contradicts pretty much all of the marketing messages on the fitbit website. If fitbit is not planning to fix such crucial errors, then it would be much more honest to just market their watches as a step counter...

PS: this post is NOT about disabling the calorie estimating setting in the dashboard

Just counting steps, even when not on a treadmill, is the only value for me.
