Did you mean:

As I have lost weight, my fat % goes UP on Aria. Mistake or real?

Hey everyone,

How much weight have you lost by increasing your number of steps?

I recently bought a fitbit zip and am making an effort to move more (incl. lots of pacing when I'm on the phone and taking the long way to the train station when I walk).

I was wondering what other's experiences are in weight loss and increasing how much they walk around

Cheers,

Nicola

I lost almost all of my weight through nothing more than "steps."  Granted I did make some small adjustments to how much I ate and I did give up only a couple of things (like carbonated drinks).  But I didn't diet (deny myself) food.  I ate ice cream, for example.  But rather than a large bowl, I had a small bowl (actually the serving size printed on the side of the box).

As I got more physically fit, I increased my number of steps.  That meanst spreading walking out through the day rather than trying to do it all at once.  For example, I would do 20-30 minutes first thing in the morning on the treadmill or around the neighborhood.  I would walk ~30 minutes at lunch.  I walked with a group of coworkers late in the afternoon (15-20 minutes) and then at the end of the day, I might walk another 20-30 minutes.

I started with a baseline of between 8000-10000 steps.  Eventually I increased up to 22,000/day.  But it took a couple years to get to that point.  But I went from my all time high of 252 pounds down to a low of 163.  I have settled in at 172 and am running 3 days a week (I walk the other days).

Sweet thanks 🙂

Oh wow 22,000 steps a day sounds like heaps! Do you manage to do that most days?

I am managing close to 20,000/day. I cut back some to allow rest days from running. I am running a minimum of 3 days/wi in preparation for my next series of half and full marathons.

From my experience, to decrease your fat percentage it relies on three things:

 - Minimizing your idling (sitting)

 - Working on your cardiovascular (walks and runs)

 - Working on your strength training (weight lifting, body weight exercises, and optional cardio classes)

The longer you are idle, the more fat percentage will be.

It's also based on what incorrect foods you are eating during weight loss. Processed foods will maintain or increase your fat percentage based on it's ingredients. If you read the back of the packages, you'll see the sodium is extremely high. You'll need more water to lower the percentage and more cardio to burn it off.
