Burning calories revisited

ANSWERED

Ok I'm not quite getting the calories burned. I understand you start with a base rate and the activity recorded by your fitbit results in  the increase in calories. I usually walk for exercise at the same rate(faster at first , then a steady pace except when running to avoid being hit by cars or bikers). So yesterday I walked about 5.3 miles and was given around 2,200 calories. However today for the first time I noticed that although I had increased my walk to almost twice that ----not quite 10 miles my calorie number was around 1800. I'm so confused!!!  ---Yet I have my fit sycned with Weightwatchers and I was given my max of activity points???????

Thank you

The day isn't over. Right now we (those of us on central time) have 8 more hours to go, so your calories burned for the day is going to continually increase every hour based on your activity. For example, I've burned 2437 calories so far today. If I sat on the couch for the next 8 hours, I'll get my BMR/24 * 8 more calories by 12:00 midnight. I will end the day over 3000 calories burned even though I'm at 2437 right now.

You would not have received 2200 calories for your walk. That would have been your total calories for the day to that point. Like the other poster said, you will continue to accumulate calories as the day continues. Maybe you did your walk yesterday later in the day than today? That would explain why your number was higher after your walk yesterday. Or, maybe you did something extra earlier in the day yesterday which boosted your calorie burn before your walk.
