Business travel and weight loss...

I left on a trip Sunday and it's probably a good thing I'm headed home tomorrow.  When I travel on my own I usually keep my eating in check by doing dinners at a local grocery store (ie. roast chicken and salad for dinner).  However, this time I'm travelling with a coworker and my end of day totals have swung from wildly under calories to about 500 cals over today.

I was lucky to be driving, and be with a coworker who didn't mind that today (a less active day) was up for a walk along a river trail (between the storms).  I do try to do the lean protein and veggies (ie. steak and broccoli for lunch with a vegetable salad), but at the end of the day today we did a mexican restaurant.  A pretty decent one with the owner taking orders, special meals, and even splitting a dessert to die for, that was pretty light (texture, maybe not so much calories).  Knowing what I'm burning helped though.  From the last 3 days (all daily):

Food Intake:                         +2410

At rest or sedentary:             -1749

During activity:                      -2623

Net:                                       -1962

Overall, I'm still running more of a defecit than I should, however, even with two of the restaurants having calorie counts I'm guessing that even my estimates are off.  Anyone reading from KC, MO - you have some great restaurants.  Smiley Wink

Just go with it. Things happen. Do the best you can when traveling.

I used to travel a lot (way too much!) when I was working for corporate America, and always with 3 or 4 co-workers. But, I considered my health my responsibility, and took time to take care of myself.  After we returned to the hotel at the end of the day, the co-workers couldn't wait to get to the bar for coctails & snacks. I couldn't wait to change into my running shorts and go out for some exercise. If the weater was bad, I'd go to the hotel's exercise room. Then I had time to shower and get dressed to join them for dinner. Being diabetic, I still stuck to my diet, not whatever everyone else was craving. I never gained weight while travelling. It is a matter of determination.

I have gotten really good at manipulating menus to fit my food choices- but I have to say, non-chain mexican is the only place it doesn't work. they try, they really do, its just not their way of cooking. But anyhow, if you are mostly in deficit and one day is off, you aren't going to see a gain. You might from sodium, but one day eating and drinking per your norm will take care of it. important thing is you are aware and you are moving.
