I have dieted for 25 years. I religiously followed every diet out there. My doctors always told me "Calories in-Calories out." I wish that had worked for me. I would be so skinny now. However, in January I tried the Blood Sugar Solution plan and discovered that I have an allergy/intolerance to gluten. By eliminating it from my diet I have lost 30 pounds in 3 months and feel energetic, have no digestive issues or headaches. I have also gone off my antidepressant .
I urge people who have given up to try to eliminate gluten and see if it is your problem too. Careful, it is in everything. I recommend getting a good book to find out the sources of gluten in your diet.
Please do not fall for the calories in calories out myth. It is not for everyone. There may be some underlying condition that makes you an exemption. People are not the same and do not all lose weight the same way. Thinking that one simple phrase will make everyone lose weight is crazy. Don't give up.

here's a great post that goes more in depth into why 'calories in calories out' thinking is too simplistic:

Awesome topic. I mayself have been doing paleo diet (gluten free) for quite some time. It has help tremendously with my weight lost and leaning. I found this cook book on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Practical-Paleo-Customized-Whole-Foods-Lifestyle-ebook/dp/B008THOQVA/ref=sr_1_... beening a fantastic informative book, do try it if you haven't seen it. Actually, the calories in - calories out was still true, you aren't a snow flake immune to the law of conservation.
It just means your estimate for what calories out was very wrong, or your ability to log while having carbs was inflated more than you think, or combo.
And having a food allergy definately changes the calories out, because your body gets even more stress than the diet by itself, and body's response to stress is usually to slow down everything. Especially when it's in a disease state fighting this celiac it can't handle.
All you did was find a stressor and remove it, letting your body get back to normal burning levels, which was abviously closer to your estimate.
You also list several other things there that changed that would for sure lower your daily burn, and now that they are gone, you are likely much more active.
Glad you found it, sadly it's still a minority disease, but for one to check out if you have symptoms.
More prevalent is just a sensitivity to lots of carbs at once, or without having protein and fat with it. Indegestion, gas, low blood sugar after insulin spike, ect.
That also changes the game. But it's still calories in being less than calories out to lose weight.
