Hi. The problem is sugar and I'm addicted to it. I need to just step away. I was thinking of a sugar detox or cleanse. Has anybody ever done one? Any recommendations? For the next few days I'm going to focus on proteins and vegetables and see how that goes. Thanks!

I bought a book called SUGAR DETOX. I can get back to you with the authors. It is a white book with blue lettering, written by 2 women. One is a dermatologist and the other is a doctor. It is a fantastic book full of valuable information about our bodies, food, vitamins, skin, etc. I lost a lot of weight and have kept it off by following the information provided in this. Other people noticed how much better my skin looks and I have more energy. I even sleep better at night. I bought this book and gave it as Christmas presents to my daughters and close friends. I didn't view it as a diet book, but more of a very good resource book. You can preview something like the first 50 pages on your Nook or Kindle if you have one. Hope this is helpful.

The best sugar detox is to quit eating sugar. It takes about two weeks for the cravings to subside. You should also dump, white rice, pastries, white flour, white bread, white potatoes, and white pasta.

Please do...I would like to see what you think. I knew, but forgot, until I read the book.....carbs turn to sugar which turns to fat if you can't burn it off. Love this book :).

I was also addicted to sugar, had a really tough time "coming down" My physcian says it is like a "junkie " crashing. I will never do sugar again, that was awful. I can't drink anything with artificial sugar in it ... causes major instant headache. so if its not organic and /or natural I leave it alone.....

Gizmosmom - I have always had the artificial sugar headache, so I know what you mean! I really can tell the difference without sugar. I'm not as hungry!!!!
So far so good. I was able to do the three day detox without too much trouble. Of course a family emergency came up, so I've fallen off the wagon, although without real sugar...just grabbing stuff not on the plan yet. I'll try to stay as close to plan as possible while we work through this. Stay healthy!!! 🙂

I second the 21 day sugar detox. Awesome book, and she has great recipes too! Her recipe for bolognese sauce is amazing. I cannot eat regular spaghetti sauce after having this one, it's that awesome! (of course you have it on spaghetti squash or zucchini spiralized noodles)
It's not a weight loss diet per se, more of a reset to help you get rid of the excess sugar you consume. I have been trying to give up artificial sweetener for a long time and this did it. Amazing how sweet food is in its natural state (like hard boiled eggs have a hint of sweetness, who knew?)

I've just started reading The Blood Sugar Solution by Mark Hyman, MD. I heard him interviewed on public raido and ordered the book from my Library. He has a new book - 10-Day Detox Diet, which is a sugar detox. Here's his website http://drhyman.com/. Good luck!

It is just 10 days.
I really helped me !! I use to really love sugar and carbs.
It really has stopped and I have more energy !!
The food is really good !!

The best thing I have done to break the sugar addiction is a 3 day fast. I would only juice during this time and it was mostly green veg with some carrots or apples for taste. After that, I would introduce only things that grow from the ground. By the end of the week the sweetness of an apple or carrots were more than enough to take care of my sweet tooth.
I highly recommend dropping all refined starches, flours, and sugar. You may breakout during detox but afterwards your skin looks fantastic.

Great point! I use Stevia, have a plant in my kitchen, but for recipes that call for sugar I tend to use sucanant. It provides some sweetness but is considerably less sweet than most sugars.
