Hi. The problem is sugar and I'm addicted to it. I need to just step away. I was thinking of a sugar detox or cleanse. Has anybody ever done one? Any recommendations? For the next few days I'm going to focus on proteins and vegetables and see how that goes. Thanks!

Has anyone found a sugar detox book that is for vegetarians or vegans? Many of the programs I see have high protein plans with meat recipes. I am vegetatrian and looking for a good sugar detox book and plan. Thanks!

I expect to start the diet some time in October but I'm seriously cutting my calories in advance so the drop to 800 calories a day for 8 weeks isn't such a shock to the system.
My nurse says she has seen fantastic results in other Type 2 patients, with them coming off virtually all their drugs.

Everytime I see "detox" or "xx days fix", this activates my BS detector
I try to get most of my sugar from fruits (bananas, apples, peaches etc.). It’s still fructose, but you also get fiber, minerals and they tend to be more filling. I’ve completely stopped drinking sugar: I’ve never been a soda drinker (but I’d advise to eliminate them completely), but I did drink juice (orange, apple etc.) and I added sugar in my coffee. Now all I drink is (unsweetened) tea and coffee (black). Drinking sugar (even natural one from fruit) is a bad idea, as they’re just empty calories that won’t fill you.
I also make room in my diet for some sugary stuff everyday, a bit like ex-smokers who keep having one cigarette a day, just to remember how good it feels. Having a few calories coming from sugar, even if it’s from "bad"/"unhealthy" foods like cheesecake or donuts won’t ruin your diet if you’ve made room for them. That’s the idea of flexible dieting.

I've been a serious sugar addict - driving in storms in the middle of the night to get something sweet...
I did two things: I found that I like blueberries a lot - probably any sweet fruit will do - and for awhile I put them in smoothies, on cereal - everything. I gradually cut back on that and did the other thing - withdrawal and a major effort to stay off sugar. I do slip at times, and then it really is like fighting an addiction again, except that now I can catch myself quickly.
It helps to have sugar with protein and fiber - that lessens the blood sugar spike which leads to the next round of crashing and craving.
At some point you have to be strong and clear about the major health damage it does. And fight to be healthy. Don't wait for a horrible health scare. No piece of chocolate is worth that.
