ANSWERED

For all my Chats, Challenges & Laughs peeps! Since we can't get on the threads I thought I would start a discussion area for us. We may not be able to keep track of points standings easily but we can still talk.

I miss you!

Once again, I am still here. Work is super busy and we did our fall non-sport card trade show last weekend. Things should taper off a bit on the home front now but work is getting worse (again). The last person we hired was a no-call, no-show this week and had told someone that she was going to quit without giving notice. So now I am back on as receptionist and assisting with accounts payable as well as all my own duties. My boss is helping out a lot but we are not holding our breath on getting a replacement any time soon. Everyone is hiring in our area and no one wants to fill the jobs. Makes me wonder exactly what people are doing for money, can't all be on government assistance and home businesses, can they?

Hope you all have a lovely Halloween!

Hi there Cele21

Still wearing my fitbit and doing a weekly workweek challenge on my iphone. Remember BobbiNYC from our earlier challenge groups? She is in the challenge with me, too. I have annoying hip osteoarthritis but I'm still doing my fitness classes daily. Hope that you are doing well. I attached a bird feeder to my window & get to see 3-4 types of little birds daily. Hi to Lilac if you see her. Still going up and down with the last 10 lbs but staying healthy at 80 yrs. old now. Yikes. Getting my Moderna booster this afternoon so off to the duck pond to see my lovely bird friends.

Good to see the check-ins.  Miss you guys.  You're the only ones I can say some things to.  We love it here but hubby has some issues that is making it difficult to fully enjoy hunting and he no longer likes the winters up here.  So, ... last night he called our realtor.  We will not officially put the house on the market until next May/June; but, if she knows of someone before that.  Country homes with acreage around here are almost nil.  We have a set price we will not go below so we may be here for years yet.  If that's the case, I will have to step up my game and help him with the outside chores.  I thought he enjoyed that stuff but his sciatica both sides just keeps getting worse.  So, the funny thing is, if it sells we plan to travel.  I thought we had decided on a little van that would have beds, toilet, etc in that we could stop any time and stretch out, but just today (after looking at prices I think) he's talking an SUV, etc.  He's saying we can sleep in the car if we need a break while on our way to a scheduled Air BnB for extended stays here or there.  He won't travel if we own a home because he worries too much.  I'm praying that what is best for us; what God wants for us happens - either way.

What made my decision last night was getting the news that my 70 year old sister fell twice while hunting in Montana (on a mountain range).  The second time she wouldn't let her husband help her up.  She ended up being airlifted to the hospital and today she was in surgery over five hours  for severe right knee injuries and a broken left hip that they had to put in a rod from hip to knee.  She has to be 100% off weight for six weeks so she'll be going to a nursing home for a long time.  It's been our dream to see this country so we're thinking it's now or never.

Starting to work the 12 steps in OA.  Trying hard to get all sugar out of my diet.  Tomorrow I find out if my sponsor thinks I need to eliminate another ingredient item or two!

@dancefoxtrot  - Hello! So good to hear from you!  I had a message from Lilac a couple months ago that she was back to the pool and down 10 lbs. (She had gained all her weight back so is starting over again). I'll let her know you say hi. You should totally hang out in this group for a bit, such good people. My old flex was dying when I accidentally left it at my sister's in July the day before she had a house fire. I got it back early September (she actually grabbed it on her way out of the house) but still haven't tried charging it again. I should start looking into the challenges on the app again, maybe I can join you for a couple.

@CJ_Here  - I know you like your current home so I'm sorry it's not working as planned. Hope you are shown the correct path ahead and have a smooth journey. Sorry to hear about your sister, prayers will be going up for fast healing. Travelling sounds wonderful but hubby and I are both positive we will both die at work LOL! Don't see retirement happening any time soon.

In other news - my daughter got engaged this past Saturday! We knew it was coming (he's had the ring for about a year) but didn't know when and she didn't (and still doesn't) know we knew about it. We happened to be with hubby's aunt as her daughter (hubby's cousin) was in town and we went out to dinner with them. Our daughter knew we were going to be with Aunty and she timed her call so Aunty could share in the happiness. Aunty was thrilled that we were able to spend time with her and her daughter and then to hear about the engagement put her over the edge to tears of happiness. It was soooo sweet!

Daughter and fiance' will be in town this upcoming weekend as we are going to the Monkee's concert on Friday, a craft show, lunch and movie on Saturday and they will go back home Sunday morning. Hopefully I will get more details and maybe an estimated timeline for the wedding.

This SHOULD give me the motivation I have needed to get serious about weight loss/fitness again, especially if I keep thinking about all the things that will need to be done, the parties that I will need to participate in and all the pictures LOL!

Hi everyone,

It's Saturday and I have the whole day to myself. I've been super busy with both work, play and family stuff. I've missed you guys but I've literally been in motion nearly every minute that I wasn't sleeping!

@Cele21what wonderful news! Sounds like you will have a lot to look forward to and some great time with your daughter planning for all of the events!

@CJ_Herewow, that's tough. I'm sorry to hear that it's come to this but it is good news that you have time to prepare for it. On the other side, travel is so enriching - I long for the freedom to do that and look forward to it some day! I'm sorry to hear about your sister too - that's so scary!

Some highlights and lowlights:

My ex-boyfriends birthday is Halloween. Months ago I purchased a ticket to an event through a company called Clued Up that I thought might make a fun activity for him that we could invite some of his friends to because he really liked when I took him and some friends to an escape room. It's kind a live action role play murder mystery thing that they do in cities around the world. This one took place in historic Old Town Manassas. Using their phone app, you interview witnesses, find clues and piece together the story. Since I already had the ticket for up to 6 people, I invited some friends and we had a blast. It was a beautiful mild fall day and we walked all over town. We had a brunch at one of the nicer restaurants there and happy hour at another spot afterward. Costumes were encouraged but I just wore street clothes plus some little kitty ears in my hair. We ran into some other friends of mine also playing the game. It was totally fun!

I've also been upping my Instagram and Facebook postings to focus on clients and potential clients so I've been making more of a point of going out to different spots. Last weekend my best friend Wendy and I drove out to a place near the mountains called Linden and went to The Apple House which is famous for their apple cider doughnuts. We got bbq, cider, a fall mule cocktail made with hard cider and of course doughnuts. I just uploaded a couple of images to both websites. I've committed to doing one post on each per week. Anyway, I'm getting so much more interaction - tons of likes, picking up followers, it's crazy. The reason I'm doing this is so that I have profiles that support the restaurant industry so I can then use my profiles to prospect and get appointments with restaurant owners. I didn't feel like I had enough quite yet to really get their attention. It seems to be working as I got invited to a hard hat tour of a new hotel opening in February in historic Haymarket and the CEO that invited me called me an influencer. Me! An influencer! Kind of cracks me up!

I still LOVE my job. I'm working hard - later at night and a few hours on the weekend. Last Sunday was my last day at the retail store - I no longer needed the money and the mental commitment plus the time was just getting to be too much given the demands of learning all about IT, credit card processing, financing, etc. But the hard work is paying off as I am getting a little faster, deepening my knowledge and making some bookings. I did a whopping 3 contracts this week. That's huge! Fully ramped, they expect 6 total per month. Now, these are only my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th total contracts since I started 9/13 but they don't expect of us "ramping reps" the volume they expect of those fully ramped. Our ramp period is 3 months from boot camp so for me, through the end of the year. My goal for November to get a bonus is 9 total demos and I did 4 last week alone. I'm still nervous because I don't have any scheduled for next week yet and November is a short month because of the holiday at the end when it will be impossible to get customers to sit down with me. But, I'm at least doing a solid performance - especially for a newbie.

Also, my works HQ and other offices all reopened mid-October. We got virtual tours of all of the cool technology and play places - ping pong and video game lounges, etc - and also their kitchens with gourmet coffees, high quality snacks including organic stuff, etc. Because those of in the field don't get access to all of that, in addition to the $50 technology stipend per month and the $150 wellness stipend per quarter that's automatically added to our paychecks, we are now getting, I can't even type it with a straight face, a $50 "amenities" stipend monthly for snacks and stuff. Wow!

On the downside, my dad has officially been diagnosed with alzheimers. I'm not surprised because I've seen it coming for years but my mom is taking it very hard. My sister is surprised because she thought he was doing fine given his ability to recall obscure facts from long ago but she doesn't seem to understand how the disease progresses. The good thing is that she's moved closer and is now about 45 minutes away from them and maybe an hour away from me so she can help as we need to make changes. Dad is fine - kind, gentle, patient and happy but Mom is completely falling apart so she's actually the one we need to support right now. Having my sister closer and her being a daddy's girl and not so close with mom means that mom can actually come to my place now and then to get away for a while and have something fun to look forward to and my sister can stay with dad.

Hey there! First time in the forums and have been lurking for a while so I figured that it's time to pipe up.

I'm from the Middle-of-Nowhere New Mexico, 38 years old with an 8 year old pup that is my workout buddy. I have a very sedentary job/weekends so I have to supplement with activities.

I've lost 58 pounds since July 2020 off of using SparkPeople, but they closed down recently. Went from 226.5 to 198.5 and am slowly losing more...very slowly.

My dog and I have started walking and hiking on the weekends and I use the treadmill during the week and when I can't get out of the house. No strength training as of yet, but it probably will need to be added in sooner or later. Longest hike I have done was just shy of 5 miles up and down mountain/large hills. I normally manage around 2 to 3 miles on any given day, though much of that is on the treadmill. It seems to be working, but REALLY slowly. Once I figured out that the FitBit was overtracking my walking calories I was able to adjust my eating. But it's still slow going.

I'm hoping to hit my goal by the end of next year, but I will settle with any small loss, when it comes right down to it!

@Hmkitten  - Welcome aboard! Your progress is fantastic! I look forward to following it as it continues.

@Katrin - Sorry to hear about your Dad. Making sure your mom gets regular breaks is going to be the best thing for her (and the rest of the family).

Last weekend was very full for me. Hubby's Aunt (on his mom's side - age 91) passed away last week after several long struggles with cancer and 6 months in a nursing home. We had both already scheduled to have Friday off from work for different reasons so were able to go to the viewing and the funeral mass. After that I went to get a cortisone shot in the bad knee. Then Friday evening we went with both kids and future son-in-law to see the Monkees (Mike and Micky) in concert. For old timers they did great and we had a lot of fun.

Saturday we met up with my sister and her daughter-in-law at a local craft show where hubby's brother-in-law shows his wood crafts. We separated after as they had somewhere else to go and my family went out to lunch, followed by the new Marvel movie.

Sunday, around 7 am we got a call from hubby's brother that the Aunt (hubby's father's side - age 93) we have been helping out had fallen and was in the emergency room. Hubby and I headed there about 11:30 am after daughter and fiancée left to go back home. She got transferred to ICU around 3:30 pm. She was diagnosed with a severe UTI that had gone into her blood stream (sepsis). Her blood pressure was extremely low and the meds for bringing it back up messed with her already bad heart so they were trying to balance everything out. We left around 7:30 pm when hubby's sister got there. We went back for a quick visit with our son on Monday. On Tuesday we got the call that she was not improving and actually doing worse (kidneys failing). Hubby left work and went to be with her and some friends happened to show up also. The decision was made to take her off all the meds, make her comfortable and let her go. She passed at 3:30 on Tuesday. Hubby's brother is the executor but is currently living in Florida so we are waiting to hear what the next steps are. We have been going to her assisted living apartment and cleaning out her fridge, washing up the dishes, cleaning up the mess made by the paramedics, etc.  There is a lot more that needs to be done, just not by us right now.

It's been an emotional time as dealing with this brought up a lot of stuff from when my mom passed, but I am happy Aunty is at peace. She was the best person I had ever met and I am a better person for knowing her.

So sorry to hear of your losses, @Cele21 .  How wonderful that you were able to have such a close relationship; and how lucky for them that they had nieces and nephews that cared for them.

Good to hear all the positive movement in your career, @Katrin .

@CJ_Here  - Thank you!

Hi Everyone! I'm hoping it's been so quiet due to the holiday.

I just want to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Happy US Thanksgiving! I won’t apologize AGAIN for disappearing and give the excuse of being busy (which I am) because we make time for what we feel is important. Truth is, I’ve been lazy about logging on and typing responses.

I am loving Noom, which I joined almost two months ago and have lost eight pounds. My relationship with food is changing drastically, which is what I need.

Hopefully, I’ll be checking in more regularly.

Hi Everyone,

Sounds like we've all become busy away from the forum. I know I have and I'm sorry for being away so long! Yes, I've been busy but things are mostly okay. I've just been feeling kind of blah. Ever since we changed the clocks, I've been struggling to get out of bed, tired in the evenings, skipping workouts and having really bizarre dreams. I don't know whether it's in my body or my mind but I'm just not feeling vibrant like I wish I was. I'm going to try to lay low this weekend and listen to my body and see if I can't get myself to snap out of it.

I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the start of the holiday season!

Pondering my word for next year. This year I used "Focus" and it worked very well at work but not so good in the rest of my life.

I came up with two words so far, 'Simplify' and 'Open'. I'm leaning towards Open because it has so many uses depending on what you put after it. Open space, open time, open heart, open mind, etc. But Simplify is important too. Simplify to me means finding better, easier ways, having less distractions, getting to the core of something and deleting/ignoring all the excess that seems to be attached to everything.

Any suggestions or ideas from my Fitbit crew?

I like Open @Cele21 .  My 2021 was Committed and I guess I have committed to some things.  I'd forgotten this and now will think towards 2022.

Hope your weekend down low went well, @Katrin .  We are need times to re-set.

Happy Holidays to you, @Jan2512 .  I look forward to reading a longer post from you and others.

@CJ_Here I usually forgot my word for each year too but this year I made word clouds with Focus 2021 and all sorts of synonyms, printed out two, laminated them at work and hung one on my wall at work and one in my bedroom so I see them all the time.
