Christmas Weight Loss Challenge

I have decided since it is 90 days til Christmas the best gift I can give myself is better health. In the past 9 months I have slowly lost 40lbs give or take usually stays a between 35-40lbs. I would like to lose another 20lbs + by Christmas. This would put me at almost the halfway point for my weight loss. I was doing paleo for a while but found myself bingeing on cheat meals and eating way to many things that I shouldn't. So now I have decided no foods are off limit I will log every bite of everything and if I choose to eat more than allotted for my activity I will have to be more active to stay within my calorie deficit for the day and see how everything goes from there. Feel free to join me on this journey. Also add me as a friend so we can challange each other.

@Helix96: let me explain what I mean. Let’s take two women with the same BMI who want to lose weight. One is 60, 5ft2 and weighs 160 lbs (BMI: 29.3). The other one is 30, 5ft6 and weighs 181 lbs (BMI: 29.2). They both have the same activity level ("light", i.e. 2nd lowest out of 5 standardized levels). I’m using this online calculator for the purpose of this hypothetical case (it relies on the same formula as Fitbit for BMR/TDEE).

The older/shorter woman’s BMR is 1249 and her TDEE will be 1717. The younger/taller woman’s BMR is 1558 and her TDEE will be 2142. In order to lose 1 pound per week (500 calories daily deficit), the older/shorter woman will need to eat 1717 - 500 = 1217 calories, which is not much and is below her BMR (generally not recommended). The younger/taller one will be able to eat 2142 - 500 = 1642 calories, which is already a decent amount of food and is above her BMR.

The law of energy balance applies to both: you need a caloric deficit in order to lose weight. But it will be easier to achieve for a younger/shorter woman. In order to be able to eat more and above her BMR, the older/shorter woman may need to exercise more. For instance, "high activity" would result in a TDEE of 2155, which would make the 500 calories deficit more bearable.

@tractorlegs: to friend someone from the community, just click on their community profile, then on Go to Fitbit.com profile:

You will then be able to add that person as friend:

Note that some people use a different handle in their Fitbit profile and in their community profile (for instance, Purplepiggie in the community is Chasity in Fitbit. Other people have the same handle (for instance, I’m Dominique on both).

Add me in! But since it's 30 October now, I have only 8 Weeks.  So I'm going to goal for 16# instead of 20.

I've only lost 20# since I got my FitBit in June.  But that's still about 5# a Month.  It sure doesn't seem like it!!!  (And that 20 is just a drop in the Bucket for me.  I'm still supposed to lose another 65# according to the NHLBI BMI Chart, but I'll be happy with another 20 since that will get me back to High School Graduation Weight!)

I have a Doctor's Appointment on 30 December.  Something that doesn't thrill me since I'm Pre-Diabetic and Pre-High Cholesterol and Pre-High Blood Pressure.  Until I found this Challenge, the thought of a Doctor's Visit (not the Visit, the Tests!!!) soon after Thanksgiving and just after Christmas had me Terrified.  Now, with this Challenge and others to help me with the Battle, there's a little Hope mixed in with the Terror!!!

I've added a lot more Veggies to my Diet but I'm still a Carnivore and a Grain Eater.  I try to keep the Fat and the Sodium within Recommended Limits then the Calories are a lot easier to limit.  (I'm not good at keeping both within Limit, but I usually have one or the other below.)

07 November UPDATE - I'm going the wrong way!!!  Lost 2# as of 04 November (down to 192.6) but now it's all back on again!  CW 194.2   Woman Sad

14 November UPDATE - Going in the right direction again.  CW 191.8.

As one of those Older (65), Shorter Women (5'2"), I know what you mean!  I have to really keep up my Activity (Walking) in order to burn enough Calories to provide me with a decent Deficit after I feed my BMR.  And the more I lose, the harder it gets!!!

Okay, since I made my last post in the Halloween Challenge I'm in.

USW: 407.0
CSW: 360.0 (Feb 2016)
CW: 272.0    <-- 10/28
GW: 259.2    (Christmas)
LT: 2.26 lbs/week for 39 weeks  <--running goal, keep this average above 2.00 for as long as I can

My general goal is 1.6 lbs a week, so that would take me to 259.2.  Ideally I'd like to hit 250 by Jan 4th, but that would be a goal of more than 2 pounds a week and I don't set those.  I believe in under-promise / over-achieve.

I'm in -- first challenge for me on Fitbit.com. I've lurked for a bit but have never posted.

This has been a challenging year, and I've coped with carb-heavy food and not consistently enough with fitness, unfortunately. So, here we go:

SW and CW (10/31/16): 149

GW: 139 (Really, I hope to reach that weight by 12/14, the date of my physical!)

Long-term GW: 120 (but will check with my doctor to see if that is realistic)

I'm 5'1" and am on medicine for high cholesterol (genetic), and this is really important to me. I'm thrilled to find a group with similar goals. Heart

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Update: I'm well on my way! I've lost 5 pounds since the quoted post below. Onward and downward!

@Purplepiggie, count me in! Over the past 6-1/2 months I've lost 44 pounds, and have 14 more to lose. The difference is that my 14 more to lose is to goal, whereas yours will put you half way. But I'm unclear how to do the "friend" thing on Fitbit, so I may not do that. For me, nothing is off-limit in the diet portion of my plan except for (sometimes) sugary treats because they have so many calories. A piece of cake or a danish is 1/3 of an entire day! Robot Very Happy

Anyway, I'll be rooting you on! Onward and Downward, as they say! Man Very Happy

Hi, I'd love to join this group,  am a member of a slimming group,   but would prefer to lose weight by sensible eating and exercise rather than cutting out certain foods.   I'm new to fitbit, so would love some friends who would be on a similar journey.

Oh my goodness, we're the same. Can I add you as a Fitbit Friend?  I'd love to have someone to have a healthy FitBit Challenge?

I'm in. Goal: Lose ten pounds by Xmas (today is 10/10, for my future reference). I've lost 15 since mid-July, so I feel good about being able to do this. Ho ho ho!

Okay, I'm going to check in every Monday. As of 10/31 (three weeks), I have lost 4.7 lb.

I have been doing pretty darn well this week (almost afraid to say that, for fear I will jinx myself). Eating right, no "treating" myself to carb-y junk that I know will just make me feel bad later, and I'm back on the FitStar bandwagon.

I did, however, experiment with raising my caloric intake just a little bit. Eating to the conservative plan (-250 deficit/day) rather than the more aggressive -500/day seems to be helping me lose faster--probably because I'm a short person who's still rather sedentary, and an aggressive plan has me eating <1200 calories per day. My family is prone to metabolic syndrome diseases, so I do watch carbs very carefully. I LOVE HALO TOP. Oops, sorry, that just popped out.

How's everyone else doing?

Well I did my Tuesday morning ritual...lol. I am down 0.8 ounces since last week. I know that is not a big amount, but I will take it. It is better than a gain. I wont lie, I had hoped for more, but this is a new week and I will try to find my motivation again...lol. I hope you all have a wonderful start to our new Month and this challenge.

I bought a PowerHouse weight Gym. I cant say that I know exactly how to use it best to benefit me, but I am figuring anything has to help. However if any of you more experienced out there have suggestions, please feel free to share...

Well, here I am, reved up to lose.  Been on the LCHF way of eating for 3 days now.  I have to admit, I do not get hungry, so that's a big plus. I have a lot of food allergies, so am having to improvise on some things, but so far so good. I know it's not for everyone, but do hope it is for me.

I didn't have many children for Halloween last night, so I gave candy out by the handful. Toward the end, I put what I had left into a ziplock bag and gave it to the last trick or treater. Candy smells really tempt me, especially chocolate.

Big bummer today, my Fitbit One stopped syncing.  It's been a few days now and every solution I have tried has failed.  I guess that means it's a new device.  Any suggestions from anyone?

Love these challenges! Hang in there everyone.
