I have decided since it is 90 days til Christmas the best gift I can give myself is better health. In the past 9 months I have slowly lost 40lbs give or take usually stays a between 35-40lbs. I would like to lose another 20lbs + by Christmas. This would put me at almost the halfway point for my weight loss. I was doing paleo for a while but found myself bingeing on cheat meals and eating way to many things that I shouldn't. So now I have decided no foods are off limit I will log every bite of everything and if I choose to eat more than allotted for my activity I will have to be more active to stay within my calorie deficit for the day and see how everything goes from there. Feel free to join me on this journey. Also add me as a friend so we can challange each other.

during the holidays I'm striving to maintain without a gain -- Poetic aye.
we had our holiday party at work yesterday, BUT did manage to not totally over due or give up on the day. Was able to get 6 miles walking in --- so it helps to stay positive - didn't weigh in- as I'm only counting 2 offical weigh ins a month, (found I get too competive and then stressed/depressed if I do every week or every day)..
Think I'll make my Thanksgiving goal <1lb to go
and very hopeful for Christmas goal! Ho-ho-ho!!!

@A_Lurker You are always such an inspiration on here. I agree with you completely, but I do think sometimes I beat my self up over not getting where I want to be. However, my husband and I were just talking last night about how far we have come. Yes we know we have a long way to go, but we have come a long way. I know to a lot of people 30/35 pounds is not considered a lot. But to us it is huge, I guess what makes it so huge to us, is myself getting off of 2 blood pressure pills, and my husband getting his A1C back to normal range. I consider those 2 great accomplishments.
I don't consider this a race.. BUT I love the support and encouragement you get here to help you push to do better. In my opinion, just being here and commenting a few times a week is a great thing, because you never know how what you say encourages someone else. All of you here are such an encouragement to me.! I don't get to comment as much as I would like, BUT I love reading the other comments!
I hope every one has a wonderful healthy day today!

Great Job!!! Your motivation will come. The fact that you want to get off of certain medications is a great motivator. Sometimes you have to look at the over all picture to see what it is you want the most and then focus on that. As you keep that in mind with exercising and eating healthy eventually that focus takes over and you don't even have to think about it. The will power takes over. You and your husband are doing a great job and you both know what you want to accomplishment. Keep it up and even if you back slide a little, that is okay. We are only human and not perfect. Keep at it. You can do this!

@Tybokitty Thanks for your words of encouragement. It means a lot. I am sooo thankful I am not back to where I was..lol. I am very proud of how far we have come. I do get a tad aggravated when the slow down starts. We have both lost over 30 pounds and I have came off of all my blood pressure medicine. He has gotten his A1C back to with in completely normal range and all this is 6 months. So I am very pleased.... I guess when you get started you just want it to happen faster and faster, even though I keep telling myself, It took 45 years to get this way, I can't expect to change over night... lol.
That is why I so love this group. I love all the kind words of encouragement and the great inspiration I get from reading others. I always look so forward to reading the post.

This is for all of us who are saying "I need motivation to move more" - a mini-challenge!
Tonight (or tomorrow if you must):
I did that at lunch time today and got an extra 2,500 steps!
Are you in?

@hawkpearl40 - deciding to lose weight is a good thing. Setting a huge goal for a short period of time might make it harder. It might depend where you are starting from, however, sometimes just a goal of 'I want to be lighter by Christmas (or New Years)' might be more encouraging.
Now at work we talk about making SMART goals. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound. So me saying 'lighter by New Years' might not fall into that category.
Christmas being roughly 5.5 weeks away, consider the following things. If you're very heavy and just starting out a goal of 10 pounds might be achievable. 15 even might be as starting a new way of eating sometimes creates an initial 'woosh' for lack of a better term. If you don't have a large amount of weight to lose then 5 pounds might be more realistic. Those who are very close to an ideal weight may struggle more to even lose half a pound a week.
The other thing is how you normally eat around the holidays. When I joined a weight loss challenge at work we set the end date after our first long weekend of the summer. Not before, as there might be too many people who would use it as an excuse to over-indulge. When we continued (not at this point a weight loss challenge, but more of a maintain and/or lose one) it ended after the last long weekend of the summer.
Anyway, good luck, and welcome.

@Annabel398 I'm in! on your mini-challenge -- did that earlier this week but need to keep it up.
THANKS FOR the mini-challenge
I'm trying to get motivated, didn't get my walking in yesterday or this morning, kinda a the sluggish side, yuk! meanwhile, have to work all day behind a computer.
day by day...
trying to get motivated for the rest of the day, so far so good on the calories (they put all the holiday left overs out at the office desserts!) so just staying upstairs/ out of sight out of mind?

@Annabel398Well it wasn't exactly the same, but yesterday I did decided to walk to the bank on my lunch break. A co-worker walked with me, so it was a nice quick walk. We got over 1600 steps in our quick walk so I was happy with that. Now if I can just keep that up. Lunch is something I don't always make time for. I have a bad habit of working right through it with only eating some type of finger food while I do. I have to make it a point to take lunch and get out of the building.
I love all the ideals and encouragement that comes from this group. I love the mini-challenge... I set myself one on Tuesday. It is hard for me to get my steps in. I struggle with this everyday. I sit all day at work, so I am setting myself a mini-challenge to get my 10,000 steps in no matter what for a minimum of 7 days in a row. I have 2 so far...lol. BUT its a start.
I know today is not my official weigh day, but I can not help but weigh when I am in this office,,,,lol. Anyhow, I lost another 7 ounces, so I guess more walking is paying off. I won't officially count it... but it does make me happy.

Again, an odd week. I've eaten more purchased food than I usually do (visitors at the plant) but I'm usually pretty good at estimating my intake. I also took my mother for a drive and lunch yesterday. So, I haven't decided if I need to adjust my calories or not. Oddly I might adjust them up slightly. I bought some new equipment and I don't want to overdo it too much. My calories burned are trending upwards a little at the moment. If I coast a little for the next few weeks I'm okay with that. Hi all. I said I would check in daily ... ahem 5 days ago; so we all know how that went...
I did cut back on the Halloween candy though. Didn't cut it totally out successfully, but did cut back. Baby steps.
I really need to get my steps back up and haven't been tracking at all. I need a kick in the butt.
Will check in on Tuesday with my numbers, but wanted to wish everyone a great start to thier week.

Happy Monday morning to all... Hope all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was great until last night when the nasty stomach bug dropped by... YUCK! So today I am dragging badly. However it will not defeat me. I will get thru this with the help of my good Lord! So I am not going to let it get me down too much! I am much better this morning then I was last night.
Tomorrow is my weigh day. I am feeling good about it, especially since nothing I ate yesterday should count....(guess that is the plus to being sick) sorry... it was funny to me..Sometimes I have to laugh to keep from crying. Not sure if I will eat today or not. I guess it depends on how long this bug wants to visit. Either way, if the Good Lord is willing I will weigh in tomorrow and add my totals. I figure tomorrow will be my last official weigh day before Thanksgiving ... (Unless I sneak down to the office on Thanksgiving morning...lol)
I'll be back tomorrow with numbers!!! Have a great day to all!

Well after this week I decided to change my goal back to the original 246. This loss is a crazy surprise right before Thanksgiving! I'm pretty sure my body just likes to play tricks on me and not lose some weeks just so I can have a big number the following week. Don't get me wrong, I'll totally take it but I wish it was a bit more consistant.
I'm going to be traveling this week for the holiday so I hope I can keep up on the exercise and eating well. Hoping everyone the best time with family and friends this week and a continued willpower to stay strong!!!
