I'm new to fitbit and still trying to understand all the things that it does. I don't fully understand what the Badges mean. Could someone explain.

They are just a fun way to see for miles etc. A lot of people will work towards getting the next badge Like 5k step then they try for 10K just helps to motivate too. ♥ the badges and they help me to work toward the next one

As Wendy said, you are awarded Badges for milestones in steps, miles, floors (if your Fitbit counts them) and pounds (if you have the Aria scale). For example, when you walk your first 5,000 steps in a day, you will be awarded a Badge. When you hit 10,000 steps in a day, you'll get another 5K badge, plus a 10k badge. They're fun to collect and fun to try to reach the next level to get another badge.
If you get a badge and hover over it with your pointer, and it will tell you what you have to do to get your next badge. It's actually pretty fun and quite motivating.
Good luck and happy stepping! 🙂
