I'm sorry but I couldn't help posting this.
Three months ago I was sedentary, obese, diabetic, an alcoholic and had depression and all my stats were in the danger zone. Three months ago, one evening I thought 'I can't go on like this.' The next day I gave up alcohol, started restricting my calorie intake to 1400 a day, and signed up to a gym, which I go to daily. It obviously hasn't been easy, but once I got into the habit, it just rolls on day by day.
In three months I have lost 42 lbs, and today I went for my quarterly diabetic check up. I have been told that all my stats are now of someone who does not have diabetes! I still take anti-diabetes medicine, and I have been told if I return to my old sedentary lifestyle my diabetes will return - but, for the moment, I am in remission. I am over the moon. My doctor says that to do this is very rare, and to do it in this time span even rarer, but, as he says, the figures cannot lie. So, for the first time in a long time I can say that I am healthy. My mental state is also very much better.

Congratulations man, what you've accomplished is not easy. My story is very similar to yours, but diabetes wasn't my issue, hypertension was.
I consumed 4,000-5,000 calories a day, moved very little, all my blood levels were through the roof when I went for a check up around 3 years ago. I'm 6' 2" and weighed in at 270 lbs at that time. My glucose numbers were through the roof, I was in the hypertension II range, and had abnormal kidney function numbers.
I lost 45 lbs and have been two years alcohol free as of last month. No longer crave or desire a drink. All numbers are now normal. I did it by cutting back to 2,200 calories a day and walking 5 miles a day. I've since put about 25 lbs back on but since October 12th I've taken 12 lbs back off. I've just recently started a dumbbell and resistance band routine and started logging food and exercise into MyFitnessPal, which I sync with FitBit.
We're living proof that people with terrible habits and dire medical reports can turn their health and lifestyle around!

Nine you are a rock star- you saved your life. Congratulations- its an awesome feeling. I know I don't know you, but I am so proud of you- keep it up please!!!
Everytime I don't have to take my BP meds and the doctor double checks my chart I feel like breaking out in song.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, and thank you @emili - I have always wanted to be a rock star, but not being able to play anything or sing has been a bit of a drawback! But I love music. I always have my earphones on in in the gym.
My new good health is still sinking in. I still can't believe it - I keep on looking at the printout of my readings that the doctor gave me, to check that I'm not imagining it.
I'm not buying new clothes yet (my current ones are already quite baggy) because I still want to lose another 2 stone, hopefully by the spring. Then I can hit the shops rather than the big man websites because I can fit in to 'standard' size clothes now.

Congratulations!

Might share this with your doctor. It goes against convential wisdom, but wouldn't it be great if more people could experience the healing like you have. Curing diabeties, especially type 2 would be awesome.
